Eclipse Cross Cooling Issues: Radiator Shutter Failures?

Overheating

|

Coolant level low

Hey Eclipse Cross owners, my 2020 Hybrid has been running hot lately and losing coolant faster than normal. I suspect the radiator shutter might be acting up. Has anyone dealt with a similar issue? Would love to hear how your mechanic diagnosed and fixed it, especially if it was shutter-related. Any insights on repair costs would be great too.

Hey there! I have some experience with car repairs, and I actually dealt with something similar on my 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (also had an ASX before that). The symptoms you're describing sound really familiar. In my case, it turned out the wiring harness to the radiator shutter sensor was corroded and causing weird readings. Got it fixed at my local workshop for about 155€, they had to replace the whole harness assembly. What's your mileage on the Eclipse Cross? Also, have you noticed any warning lights on the dash? This info would help me share more relevant details about my experience. Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more info.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine's at 68567 KM and had its latest service just two months ago. I haven't seen any warning lights yet, but it's interesting that you mention the wiring harness issue. I'll definitely get that checked out. Was your repair done under warranty? I'm hoping it might be covered under mine since my car's still relatively new.

Hey again! Good to hear back from you. Yeah, I totally get your concern about the warranty, unfortunately, in my case, it wasn't covered because my Outlander PHEV was just past the warranty period when this happened. But with your Eclipse Cross being a 2020 model and only at 68K km, you should definitely be within the warranty period! Just to add to my previous comment about the wiring harness, after I got it fixed, I actually noticed a huge difference in how the cooling system performed. The coolant level stayed stable and the temperature gauge went back to normal. But here's something I learned during this whole ordeal, it's super important to get it checked ASAP. When I waited a bit too long (like a couple of weeks), it started affecting my fuel economy too. Quick tip from my experience, if your mechanic does confirm it's the wiring harness, make sure they check the connector pins too. Mine had some minor corrosion on the pins that they cleaned up while they were at it. Keep me posted on what you find out! I'm curious to know if it's the same issue I had.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really helpful about the connector pins, I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. I've actually noticed a slight dip in fuel economy lately too, so what you're saying makes a lot of sense. I've already called my local Mitsubishi dealer and got an appointment for next Tuesday. I'll be sure to push for a warranty check first thing. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's given me a much better idea of what to expect and what to look out for. Will definitely update this thread once I know what's going on with mine. Thanks again for all your help!
