Eclipse Cross Battery Issues: Warning Signs & Solutions

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

|

Car won't start

|

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

Dim or flickering lights

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2020 Eclipse Cross. The car struggles to start, battery seems weak, and I'm getting flickering lights plus a warning indicator on the dash. I suspect there might be an error message causing these issues. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their Eclipse? Would love to hear what the problem turned out to be and how your mechanic fixed it. Mainly interested in actual repair experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! I had a very similar issue with my 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander (my first SUV, so I'd say I have low experience with car repairs). The symptoms were exactly like yours, weak battery, flickering lights, and warning lights popping up. Turned out it was a faulty cable connection to the control unit that was messing with the BUS system. My trusted mechanic fixed it for about 260€. It's been running perfectly since then. Could you share your exact trim level and engine type? This might help me give you more specific advice, as these systems can vary between models. Stay safe!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience. My Eclipse has actually been pretty reliable up until now (64768 KM on the clock, last serviced about 2 months ago). What you described sounds spot-on to what I'm experiencing. Did your mechanic mention how long the repair took? I'm wondering if I should expect to leave my car at the shop for a full day. Also, was there any specific warning light that showed up on your dash? In my case, it's the battery indicator that keeps coming on. I've got the base model with the 1.5L gas engine, if that helps. Really appreciate your input on this!

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get what you're going through, it's pretty nerve-wracking when these electrical gremlins pop up. For my Outlander, the repair wasn't too time-consuming actually. My mechanic had it sorted in about 3-4 hours, so you probably won't need to leave it overnight. And yes! I had the same battery warning light flashing on my dash. It was really freaking me out at first because I thought it was the alternator (which would've been way more expensive to fix). The symptoms were identical, that annoying flickering of the lights and the struggling start in the morning were driving me crazy. Since you mentioned you've got the 1.5L engine, it's likely the same issue I had with the control unit connection. These Mitsubishis have pretty similar electrical layouts. The repair was pretty straightforward once they found the problem, just needed to clean and resecure the connections, plus replace one damaged cable. Just a heads up, make sure they check all the connection points thoroughly. My mechanic said these issues can sometimes pop up again if they only fix the obvious problem without checking the whole system. Mine's been running like a charm for about 8 months now since the repair. Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes with your Eclipse!

Thanks so much for all the details! That's really reassuring to hear it was a relatively quick fix for you. I'll definitely mention the control unit connection issue to my mechanic when I take it in tomorrow. It's such a relief knowing it might not be something super expensive like the alternator. I'll make sure they do a thorough check of all the connections like you suggested. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly the kind of real-world feedback I was hoping for. I'll update the thread once I get it fixed in case anyone else runs into similar issues with their Eclipse. Thanks again for your help! Take care!
