Eclipse Cross A/C Failure, Compressor Death Signs?

A/C System Not Engaging

Air conditioning blows warm air

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey all, having trouble with my 2021 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross (diesel, 145k km). The A/C is acting up, barely any cold air coming through, and sometimes it won't even kick in at all. Pretty sure it might be the compressor giving up on me. Had a bad experience with my local mechanic last time, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar A/C issues on their Eclipse Cross? Any recommendations for trusted mechanics who actually know their way around Mitsubishi A/C systems? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, had the same issue with my 2018 Mitsubishi ASX Diesel last summer. The symptoms were identical, weak cooling and intermittent A/C operation. Took it to a certified Mitsubishi specialist, and it turned out to be low refrigerant due to a small leak at one of the connection points. They did a dye test to locate the leak, fixed the connection, and refilled the system with fresh refrigerant. The whole process wasn't too complicated, but it's crucial to get it done properly to prevent damage to the compressor. Leaving it unfixed could lead to compressor failure, which would be a much bigger headache. I'd suggest finding an authorized Mitsubishi service center rather than a general mechanic. They'll have the right diagnostic tools and proper refrigerant specs for these models. Been running fine since the repair, no issues for the past year. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it was just a refrigerant leak in your case. My symptoms sound pretty similar to what you had. By the way, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other A/C quirks popping up? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at cost-wise and whether I should expect any follow-up issues. Thanks again!

Hey again! Happy to follow up! After seeing my post about the refrigerant leak, I actually took it to the Mitsubishi service center I mentioned. Great news, it turned out that the compressor defect was covered under warranty, so I didn't have to pay anything for the fix! The A/C has been working absolutely perfectly since then, blowing nice and cold, no problems at all. It's been such a relief, especially during these warmer months. The technicians did a really thorough job checking everything while they had it in, so I'm pretty confident there won't be any more issues popping up. I know you mentioned having concerns about your local mechanic, and honestly, going to the certified Mitsubishi center was definitely the right call in my case. They really knew their stuff and handled everything super professionally. Best of luck with yours, sounds like it might be the same issue. Hope you get it sorted just as easily as I did! Let us know how it goes!

Just wanted to update you all on my A/C situation! Finally took your advice and went to the Mitsubishi service center yesterday. what a different experience from my local mechanic! Turned out it was actually a faulty relay and a minor refrigerant leak, not the compressor after all. The technician showed me exactly what was wrong and explained everything clearly. Cost me about $380 total, including parts and labor. Not as bad as I was expecting! They had it fixed within a few hours, and now my A/C is blasting cold air like it's brand new. Such a relief with summer coming up! Really glad I didn't put it off any longer. Thanks again for pushing me towards the certified center, you were absolutely right about them knowing their stuff. Definitely won't be going back to my old mechanic for any Mitsubishi-related issues. Sometimes it's worth paying a bit more for proper service, right? Cheers for all the help!
