Eclipse Cross AC Fails: Temp Sensor Under Suspicion

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

|

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey everyone, my AC has been acting up in my 2019 Eclipse Cross (56K km). It's only blowing warm air and the temperature control seems completely off. I suspect it might be the ambient temp sensor playing tricks, especially after a sketchy experience with my previous mechanic. Has anyone dealt with similar AC/temperature issues in their Eclipse Cross? Would love to hear about your experiences and recommendations for reliable mechanics who actually know how to fix this. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander last summer. The symptoms were exactly the same, warm air and temperature control not responding. Turned out to be a faulty ambient temperature sensor connection. The wiring harness near the sensor had some corrosion and wasn't making proper contact. Took it to my regular mechanic, and they found the problem pretty quickly with their diagnostic equipment. The fix wasn't too complex, they cleaned the connector, replaced a small section of the wiring, and properly sealed it to prevent future corrosion. It wasn't a serious repair, more of a maintenance thing really. The AC has been working perfectly since then. My advice would be to get it checked soon because driving without proper AC diagnostics can potentially lead to bigger issues down the line. Make sure they specifically check the sensor connections, not just the refrigerant levels.

Thanks for sharing that! It's really helpful to know it was just a wiring issue. Been worried it might be something major. Hey, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the AC?

Hey again! Yes, I remember exactly what I paid, it was 95€ for fixing the cable connection to the ambient temperature sensor. Pretty reasonable considering how much I was worried it might cost! I'm happy to report that since getting it fixed at my mechanic, the AC has been working like a charm. The temperature readings are spot-on now, and the system responds perfectly when I adjust the settings. No more weird temperature fluctuations or warm air when it should be cold. It's honestly such a relief! You know, it's funny how something as simple as a corroded connection can cause such a headache. But once they fixed that sensor connection, it was like having a brand new AC system. I can now say with confidence that if your symptoms are similar to what I experienced, it's likely not going to be a major repair. No other quirks or issues since then, it's been smooth sailing all the way. Just make sure you get a mechanic who knows what they're looking for with these temperature sensor issues. Getting it fixed right the first time makes all the difference!

Just wanted to update everyone, I got my Eclipse Cross fixed today! Took it to AutoTech on Main Street after reading all your helpful responses. Turns out you were right, it was indeed a sensor issue, but in my case, they found the sensor itself was faulty, not just the wiring. The whole thing cost me 150€, including parts and labor. A bit more than what paid, but still way better than what I was expecting. The mechanic was super transparent about everything, showed me the old sensor and explained how it was causing the temperature reading problems. Fixed it in about an hour, and wow, what a difference! The AC is now blowing properly cold air, and the temperature control is working perfectly. Such a relief! Thanks everyone for your advice, saved me from stressing out over what I thought would be a major repair. Just took it for a test drive, and it feels like I've got a brand new AC system. Definitely keeping this mechanic for future services, they really knew their stuff!
