eCall System Failure: T-Cross Emergency Alert Malfunction

Thanks for sharing your experience. Similar eCall failure happened on my T-Cross recently. Control module was showing diagnostic codes and the system reset attempts failed repeatedly. Good to know about those wiring issues, my local shop also mentioned moisture damage as a potential cause. Can you remember roughly how much the complete repair ended up costing? Also wondering if youve had any telematics issues resurface since getting it fixed? My mechanic quoted quite a high price for diagnostics and repairs so trying to gauge if its reasonable.

Thanks for asking about the costs. After getting the T-Cross diagnosed, it turned out much simpler than my previous Polo case. The telematics malfunction was traced to a faulty cable connection at the control module, no need for the extensive repairs I had before. The fix only cost 95€, which included testing the emergency call system to ensure proper function. Since the repair, the car safety systems have worked perfectly with no recurring telematics issues. No more warning lights or error messages on the dashboard. Sounds like your shop might be quoting for a worst-case scenario involving complete wiring replacement. Would suggest getting them to do a thorough diagnostic first, might just be a simple connection issue like mine turned out to be. The control module itself rarely fails; its usually the connections causing the emergency call system malfunction.

Thanks for the advice. Finally got my T-Cross fixed last week. The mechanic found water damage in the antenna connector which triggered the system failures. Total repair came to 280€ including diagnostics and parts. Shop had to dry everything out, replace the damaged connector, and run a full system reset on the emergency call module. Took about 3 hours total but the diagnostic codes are now cleared and warning lights gone. All safety systems working normally again. Much better outcome than initially feared when those error messages first appeared. Good to know about checking connections first rather than assuming worst-case repairs needed. Will definitely keep an eye on any warning signs of moisture issues in the future.

Had a similar situation with a 2016 VW Polo 1.2 TSI. The telematics control module was showing identical symptoms with the SOS signal malfunction. The automotive electronics diagnostic revealed two main issues: corroded wiring connections near the roof antenna and a degraded plug connection at the main control unit. The repair involved replacing the complete wiring harness for the eCall system and updating the control module firmware. This was not a quick fix since accessing the components required partial headliner removal. The car safety system is quite complex, requiring specialized diagnostic equipment to properly reset and test the emergency call functionality. This is considered a serious issue since the eCall system is a mandatory safety feature. Without proper function, the automatic emergency response might fail during an accident. The repair must be done at a workshop with VW-specific diagnostic tools to ensure proper calibration of the telematics system. Most quality issues with these systems trace back to water ingress or connection problems, rather than failure of the main components. Regular diagnostic checks can help identify degrading connections before complete system failure occurs.
