Thanks for sharing your experience! It's really helpful to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I actually got mine fixed about two months ago at a local shop in Vancouver. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? I'm trying to make sure I won't need to deal with any related problems down the road.
Hey again! Yeah, I got it all sorted out back then at the Mitsubishi dealer in Toronto. The total bill came to 695€ (pretty much standard dealer pricing), mainly for fixing the defective sensor wheel on the camshafts, which was the root of the problem. I'm happy to report that since getting it fixed, my Eclipse Cross has been running like a dream! No more unusual shutoffs or rough starts, it's honestly like having a new car again. The camshaft sensor malfunction is completely gone, and I haven't had a single related issue pop up since the repair. Trust me, paying for the proper fix at a certified shop was totally worth it. My mechanic mentioned that these sensor issues can cause bigger problems if left unchecked, so I'm glad I got it sorted when I did. Since you've already had yours fixed in Vancouver, hopefully you're experiencing the same smooth running I am! Let me know if you notice anything else, always happy to compare notes with fellow Mitsubishi owners!
Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! Yeah, I actually got pretty lucky with my repair costs, my local mechanic in Vancouver charged me around $550 all in, which seems like a decent deal compared to dealer prices. You'll be glad to know I took your advice and didn't wait around to get it fixed. The shop I found ended up being great, really straightforward and honest about everything. The guy even showed me the old sensors and explained what went wrong. Been about two months now, and honestly, the car's running better than ever! No more sudden shutoffs or morning struggles. Funny enough, right after I got it fixed, I ran into my old mechanic at the grocery store. Let's just say I'm pretty happy I switched shops for this repair! Really appreciate all your help with this. It's awesome to connect with other Mitsubishi owners who've been through the same thing. Take care!
Had exactly the same issue with my 2015 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Hybrid last summer. The symptoms matched yours perfectly, unusual shutoffs, rough starts in the morning, and the engine running really uneven. Got it checked at my local Mitsubishi dealership and you're right on track, it was indeed the camshaft position sensor. They had to replace both sensors (exhaust and intake side) since they tend to fail together. The fix involved removing some components to access the sensors, and they also cleaned the surrounding area since oil residue can affect the new sensors. It's definitely not something you want to ignore, faulty cam sensors can cause more serious engine damage if left unchecked. The job took about 3-4 hours at the shop, and they also did a full diagnostic to make sure there weren't any related issues.
