Dying L200 Alarm? Quick Fix for Common Battery Issues
Alarm system malfunctions

Thanks for sharing your experience! My L200 just hit 116044 KM, and I had my last service about 2 months ago. The alarm's been going off unsual, especially during cold mornings, and sometimes it won't disarm with the remote. It's still the original alarm system that came with the car. Your situation sounds pretty similar to what I'm dealing with. Did you notice any warning signs before your backup battery completely failed? It'd be great to know if I should expect more issues before getting it fixed.
Hey again! Yeah, looking back at my Pajero's situation, I definitely noticed some warning signs before the battery completely gave up. The unusual triggering during cold mornings, exactly what I experienced too! It started maybe 2-3 weeks before things got really annoying. My Pajero had about 125,000 KM when this happened, so pretty close to your mileage. The most obvious sign for me was that the remote's range got really inconsistent. Some days it would work from 20 meters away, other days I had to be right next to the car. Super frustrating! And yeah, that thing about not being able to disarm with the remote, had that too. Usually had to use the key to get in, which would set off the alarm, and then I'd have to start the engine to shut it up. Since you mentioned yours is the original system like mine was, I'd say you're probably dealing with the same issue. After I got the backup battery replaced, it's been working like a charm for the past year. Just a heads up though, you might want to get it sorted soon because in my case, it eventually got to a point where the alarm would go off unsual even during the day. Not fun having your neighbors give you the evil eye at 2 PM!
That's really helpful info, thanks! Yeah, I've already started getting those weird range issues with the remote that you mentioned, sometimes works fine, other times I'm practically hugging the car to get it to respond. I think I'll go ahead and book it in at the workshop this week before it gets worse and I end up annoying my neighbors too! The price you mentioned seems reasonable for the peace of mind. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's definitely made me feel more confident about what needs to be done. I'll make sure to ask them to replace the backup battery unit specifically. Thanks again for all the details!
Hey there! I had similar issues with my 2002 Mitsubishi Pajero (gas). I've got some experience working on cars, but mostly basic maintenance stuff. My alarm system was acting up too, and it turned out to be a discharged battery due to age. Took it to my regular workshop last summer, and they replaced the backup battery unit. Cost me around 330€ altogether, parts and labor included. The repair solved all the weird alarm behaviors I was experiencing. What symptoms are you experiencing exactly? Also, is your L200 still running on the original alarm system? This info would help me share more relevant details from my experience.
