Dying ASX Battery or Terminal 30 Fault? Get Answers Here

Hi there, I'm having some electrical issues with my 2013 Mitsubishi ASX (111k km, gasoline engine) and I'm a bit hesitant to visit the mechanic after a previous bad experience. The car's showing multiple electrical problems, battery seems weak during start-up, lights are dimming, and the dashboard's lighting up with electrical fault warnings. I suspect it might be a terminal 30 connection issue. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their ASX? Would love to hear about your experience and if you can recommend a reliable mechanic who's good with electrical issues. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had similar issues with my 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander last winter. Started with slow cranking, then dashboard lights going crazy, and eventually, multiple warning lights popping up. Thought it was just the battery at first, but turned out to be more complex. Took it to my mechanic, and they found corrosion at the battery terminals plus a failing alternator that wasn't charging the battery properly. The terminal connections needed cleaning and tightening, and they had to replace the alternator. It was quite a serious issue since it could've left me stranded anywhere if not fixed. In your case, those symptoms sound very familiar. The terminal 30 connection could definitely be the culprit, but I'd also have them check the alternator output. Better to get it checked soon, electrical issues tend to get worse if left unattended. Dave at AutoCare (I can PM you the details) did a great job on mine. He specializes in Asian cars and their electrical systems.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! This really helps, as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'm actually planning to get it checked this week. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks pop up?

Hey again! Just wanted to update you on my repair costs and experience. I went to see Dave, and it turned out to be mainly a battery issue, not as complex as I initially thought. The terminal 30 interruption that was causing all those symptoms was fixed during the same visit. Total bill came to 290€, which was mostly for the battery replacement and sorting out the connection problems. Much better news than my previous alternator drama! Since the repair, everything's been running like a charm, no more warning lights, strong starts every time, and all electrical systems working perfectly. It's been such a relief, honestly. Those dimming lights and dashboard warnings were making me nervous every time I drove. Quick tip: Dave mentioned it's worth keeping an eye on the battery terminals and keeping them clean to prevent similar issues in the future. Been doing that religiously since the fix! Let me know how your repair goes, hope it's as straightforward as mine turned out to be this time around!

Thanks so much for all the info! I finally got around to taking my car to Dave yesterday, and you were right, he's really good! My issue was pretty similar to your latest experience. The battery was on its last legs, and there was some nasty corrosion on the terminals that was causing all those weird electrical gremlins. The whole thing cost me around 310€, which included a new battery, cleaning the connections, and a thorough check of the electrical system. Dave was super transparent about everything and even showed me what was wrong. Much better than my last mechanic experience! The car's running like a dream now, no more dimming lights or dashboard warnings. It starts up instantly, which is such a relief. I've already marked my calendar to check those terminals every few months like you suggested. Really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. It's so much better dealing with someone trustworthy when it comes to car repairs. Thanks again for all your help!
