Dying A/C in Mitsubishi eK, DIY or Pro Fix?

A/C System Not Engaging

Air conditioning blows warm air

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey all, having trouble with my 2019 Mitsubishi eK (126k km). The A/C is acting up, barely any cold air coming through, and sometimes it won't even kick in. My last mechanic experience wasn't great, so I'm a bit hesitant to go back. I think it might be the temperature sensor playing up, but I'd love to hear from anyone who's dealt with similar A/C issues in their eK. What was your diagnosis and where did you get it fixed? Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2016 Mitsubishi Mirage last summer. The A/C symptoms were exactly what you're describing, inconsistent cooling and sometimes no response at all. Turned out my sensor cable connection was defective and had some corrosion buildup. It was interfering with the temperature readings, making the A/C system think it didn't need to work. Got it fixed at a certified Mitsubishi dealer since I wanted someone who really knows these systems. The repair wasn't too complicated, they cleaned the connections and replaced a section of the wiring harness. It wasn't a serious issue, just one of those things that can happen over time with normal wear and tear. Been working perfectly since then, no problems at all. If you're not comfortable with your current mechanic, I'd recommend checking out a Mitsubishi dealership. They'll have the right diagnostic tools for these specific models. Good luck with the fix!

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! Your situation sounds exactly like what I went through. Can I ask how much you ended up paying at the dealership for the fix? Also, has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the A/C? I'm trying to get a sense of whether I should prepare for any follow-up issues. Thanks!

Hey again! Just wanted to give you a quick update since getting my Mirage fixed. The total bill came to 110€ for fixing that pesky sensor cable connection, honestly, not as bad as I was expecting! And I'm happy to report that the interior temperature sensor error that was causing all the trouble is completely gone now. The A/C has been working like a charm ever since. No other quirks or issues to report, it's been running smooth as butter for months now. The cold air comes through perfectly, and the system responds right away when I turn it on. Looking back, I'm really glad I went with the dealership on this one. They knew exactly what they were looking for and fixed it right the first time. You shouldn't have to worry about any follow-up issues. Once they sort out that sensor connection, you should be good to go! Let me know how it works out for you!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually just got back from the Mitsubishi dealership yesterday. You were right, it was definitely worth going there! They found the same issue with the sensor cable connection, plus a bit of refrigerant leak they fixed up. Ended up paying around 150€ total, which wasn't too bad considering they sorted both problems. The A/C is working perfectly now, nice cold air flowing through right away when I start the car. Such a relief after dealing with this problem for weeks! Really glad I took your advice about going to the dealership. They were super professional and even gave the system a full check-up while they were at it. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the right decision on where to get it fixed. Definitely won't be going back to my old mechanic after this!
