Discussing Overheating and AC Issues in a 2017 Mazda CX9 - Potential Electric Fan Problem?

Overheating

Air conditioning blows warm air

Hey! I've got a 2017 Mazda CX9 gas engine that's been acting up recently. The AC is just blowing warm air, and the car seems to be overheating more than usual. I've got a hunch that it could be an issue with the electric fan, but I'm no expert. Anyone else faced something like this before? Would love to know how you diagnosed it and how your mechanic fixed it. Cheers!

Hey there! I've got some experience tinkering with cars and had a very similar issue with my 2015 Mazda CX5. Trust me, I'm no pro, but I recall mine was doing the same, and the culprit was indeed the electric fan, more specifically the control unit/resistor was defective. Had to get the control unit/resistor replaced at the workshop which set me back about 480 Euro. It was a necessary fix though, everything's running smooth as butter now. Just a heads up, without more detailed info about your car it's hard to provide tailored insights. Do you have any error codes? Any strange sounds or occurrences? Have you taken it for a diagnostic scan yet? Those details would help in providing better guidance. Good luck with it!

Hey! Thanks for that insight – it's certainly given me a bit to chew on. I haven't seen any error codes popping up yet, and no strange sounds to report. I'll definitely consider taking it in for a diagnostic scan though. It's been 121066 km on the odometer since my last service, so I'm probably due for a check-up anyways. I'm glad to hear you got your situation sorted. It's a bit pricey, but if it solves the problem, it would be worth it. I'll definitely look into the control unit/resistor issue. Knowing my luck, it could very well be the same issue. Appreciate the help! Cheers!

Hey there! You're welcome always happy to help out a fellow Mazda enthusiast. Judging from the symptoms you're describing without any error codes, your problem really might be the same one I had - the control unit/resistor of the electric fan. I know it seems a bit of an expense, but trust me, it'll save you a lot more hassle in the long run. And considering 121066 km since your last service... Woah, that definitely sounds like you're due for one. When you take the car in for a diagnostic scan, they can pinpoint the exact issue – it's a real lifesaver. One other thing to keep in mind – if the electric fan was faulty for a while, you might want to have the coolant system checked too. Mine had some wear and tear due to the extra strain. Just a little tip from my experience. Fingers crossed it's a simple fix for your Mazda. Good luck, and keep us updated on how it goes! Cheers!

Wow! That's a ton of info, really appreciate your thorough advice. I hadn't considered the potential strain on the coolant system, so that's a great tip. I reckon you're right - I really need to get my Mazda in for that check-up and diagnostic scan. Seems like the best way to avoid any bigger issues down the line. I'll make sure to pass along any updates once I've gotten it sorted. This help has been really invaluable. Till then, cheers & happy driving!
