Discovery Diesel Problems: Engine Light + Power Loss Issues

Hey everyone! Having trouble with my 2010 Discovery diesel. Engine light is on, power's down badly, and it's running super rough. Gets worse with jerky acceleration and sometimes stalls at idle. Sometimes won't even start. I suspect it might be the camshaft sensor, but wanted to hear from others who've dealt with similar symptoms. Has anyone had this fixed? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic sort it out? Thanks!

Hi there! I've got some experience with cars and had a super similar issue with my 2008 Range Rover Sport diesel last year. The symptoms you're describing ring a bell, I had the exact same trouble with power loss and rough running. Took it to my regular workshop where they diagnosed faulty camshaft sensors. The replacement and labor came to about 695 Euro, but it fixed everything. Engine runs smooth as silk now. Just so I can help more specifically, what's your mileage, and have you noticed any other warning lights besides the engine light? Also, does it struggle more when the engine's cold or warm?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Disco has 113191 KM and just had its service last month. Since you mentioned it, yeah, it definitely struggles more when the engine's cold, especially in the mornings. Really appreciate knowing about your Range Rover fix, that's helpful to know it could be the same issue. Haven't noticed any other warning lights besides the engine light though. Starting to think I should just bite the bullet and get those sensors checked out.

Hey again! Thanks for the extra details about your Disco. You know what, that cold-start struggle you mentioned really confirms my suspicions about the camshaft sensors. My Range Rover was doing exactly the same thing, absolutely hated cold mornings! Just to share a bit more from my experience, before I got mine fixed, I actually tried waiting it out for a couple weeks (big mistake!). The problems just got worse, and I ended up having to get my car towed when it finally refused to start one morning. Super inconvenient! Since your mileage is pretty similar to what mine was when it acted up (I was at about 108000 KM), and you're having identical symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting those sensors checked ASAP. Better to sort it now than risk getting stranded somewhere. After I got mine fixed, it was like having a different car, no more morning drama, smooth acceleration, and that annoying engine light finally went off. Just make sure you get quality parts, my mechanic said that's super important with these sensors. Let me know how it goes if you get it checked out! Pretty sure you'll notice the difference right away like I did.

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've convinced me, I'm going to book it in tomorrow for a check-up. Really don't want to end up stranded like you did, especially since my symptoms sound exactly like what you experienced. Actually feeling quite relieved now knowing it might just be those sensors rather than something more serious. I've got a good mechanic who knows Land Rovers well, so I'll make sure to mention about using quality parts too. Will definitely keep you posted on what they find, fingers crossed it's as straightforward as your fix was! Really appreciate all your help and advice on this.
