Blower does not work properly

Hi everyone! Having some troubles with my 2012 Discovery diesel (127K km) and need your input. The climate control is acting up, blower's inconsistent and the heating/cooling isn't working right. There's also a warning light on my dash. I suspect it might be the outdoor temp sensor, but after a previous bad experience with mechanics, I wanted to check if anyone here has dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual problem and did you get it fixed without breaking the bank? Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport diesel (had about 115K km at the time). The symptoms were pretty much identical to what you're describing. In my case, it turned out to be the outdoor temperature sensor cable that was partially damaged and had a loose connection. These sensors communicate with multiple systems, including the climate control unit, which explains the blower issues and temperature control problems. I took it to the garage three months ago. The mechanic first tested the sensor's readings, then traced the wiring. Found some wear near the connector where the cable runs through the front bumper. They had to replace the entire sensor cable assembly and recalibrate the system. It wasn't a major repair in terms of complexity, took them about 2 hours to complete. The warning light disappeared right after, and the climate control has been working perfectly since then. If your symptoms match mine, I'd suggest getting those sensor connections checked first before exploring more complex issues. It's a fairly common problem in these models.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know, as my symptoms sound identical to what you had. Glad to hear it wasn't anything too major. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? And has everything been running smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the climate system?

Hey again! Yes, absolutely happy to share, I just had to pay 155 Euro for the repair job, which covered both the cable replacement and labor. Actually, I'm really glad you asked about how it's been running because I wanted to mention, it's been working perfectly since the fix! The temperature readings are spot-on now, and the climate control is behaving exactly as it should. You know what's funny? I was actually a bit worried it might've been something more serious (and expensive!) when it first happened, but the mechanic spotted the sensor issue pretty quickly. They showed me the worn cable and loose connection, it was pretty obvious once they knew where to look. Haven't had a single problem with the system since the repair. The blower's working consistently, temperature control is precise, and that annoying warning light hasn't popped up again. Definitely worth getting it checked out, seems like these Land Rovers can be a bit sensitive with their sensors, but at least it's usually a straightforward fix! Let me know how it goes if you decide to get it looked at. Always interested to hear if others have similar experiences with their Rovers!

Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to update you! You were absolutely right about the sensor issue. Took your advice and asked them to check the connections first. Turned out my problem was almost identical, damaged wiring near the sensor. The repair was pretty reasonable, even slightly cheaper than what you paid. Best part? The whole thing only took about an hour and a half. They showed me the worn-out cable, and honestly, I felt a bit silly for worrying so much about it. Drove home with everything working perfectly, no more inconsistent blower, temperature's spot on, and that pesky warning light is finally gone! Really appreciate your help on this one. It's such a relief knowing it wasn't something more serious. Sometimes these cars can make you nervous about repair costs, but this turned out to be a pretty simple fix. Thanks again for sharing your experience, saved me a lot of stress and probably some money too. Cheers!
