Discovery ABS & DSC Failure, Wheel Sensor Issue?

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone! My 2019 Discovery with the gas engine started acting up today. The ABS and DSC systems aren't working, and I've got warning lights in both the speedometer and ABS indicator. I suspect it might be the wheel speed sensor, but I'd love to hear from others who've dealt with similar issues. Has anyone gotten this fixed? What did your mechanic find and how was it resolved? Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a pretty similar issue with my 2017 Range Rover Sport (gas engine) last year. I have some experience working on cars, but sensors are definitely not my thing. My ABS and traction control lights were going crazy, exactly like what you're describing. Took it to my regular workshop, and yep, it was a faulty ABS sensor. The whole thing, including labor and parts, set me back about 260 Euro, but it fixed the problem completely. Before I share more details about my experience, could you tell me if you're getting any specific error codes? Also, does your car make any unusual noises when you start it or during braking? This info would help me better understand if you're dealing with the same issue I had. BTW, if it helps, the Land Rover Defender was also known to have similar sensor issues around those years.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That definitely sounds similar to what I'm dealing with. I haven't noticed any weird noises during braking or startup yet, it's just those pesky warning lights. Haven't gotten around to scanning for error codes, but I'll definitely do that next. I've hit 192572 KM and just had my regular service done last month, so it's a bit frustrating to deal with this now. Really hoping it's just the sensor like in your case. That repair cost sounds way better than what I was fearing! Did you notice any symptoms before the lights came on, or did it just happen suddenly like mine? Also, did your mechanic mention how common this issue is with our engines? Thanks again for the help!

Hey again! Yeah, I totally get your frustration, especially right after a service. In my case, it was pretty much out of the blue too. I was just driving normally one morning, and boom, warning lights everywhere! No warning signs beforehand at all. About my repair experience, my mechanic actually said these sensor issues are fairly common in our Land Rovers, especially as they rack up the miles. Mine had about 175000 KM when it happened. He mentioned that dirt and road debris can sometimes mess with the sensors over time. One thing I forgot to mention earlier, before replacing the sensor, my mechanic cleaned the sensor and its surrounding area first, just to rule out any debris interference. It didn't solve my issue, but he said sometimes that's all it takes. Might be worth checking that before jumping into a replacement. I'm pretty confident you're dealing with the same thing I had, especially since your symptoms match mine exactly. Getting those error codes read would definitely confirm it though. If you're planning to get it checked out, I'd suggest mentioning my case to your mechanic, could save them some diagnostic time. Keep me posted on what you find out! Always happy to help a fellow Land Rover owner.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info! It's super helpful to know that cleaning the sensor area might be worth trying first. I'll definitely have my mechanic take a look at that before jumping into a replacement. I'm actually heading to the shop tomorrow to get those error codes read. After hearing about your experience, I'm feeling much better about this whole situation, especially knowing it might not be as expensive as I initially feared. The fact that these sensor issues are common in our vehicles is both reassuring and slightly annoying, if I'm being honest! I really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and all those helpful details. I'll probably tackle this repair pretty soon, no point in waiting around with those warning lights staring at me! Thanks again for all your help with this. You've definitely made this whole situation feel way less stressful!
