Hey, had the same problems with my Discovery too! At 83406 KM and after my latest service done about 3 months ago, I was quite surprised when these symptoms showed up. The wiring issue you mentioned really rings a bell, especially since my symptoms are almost identical. Mine also has that power drop and jerking during acceleration. You're giving me hope it might not be as expensive as I feared! The engine light is the only warning showing up, and I've noticed it happens more when the engine is warm, particularly during summer drives. Thanks for sharing your experience with the Range Rover! I'll definitely get those sensor connections checked out first before looking into more expensive repairs. I'll book it in with my mechanic tomorrow and have them take a look at the wiring. Really appreciate the tip!
Hey again! Really glad my Range Rover experience could help point you in the right direction. Just wanted to follow up since I've actually dealt with both situations, the wiring issue I mentioned before and, funny enough, a actual knock sensor failure about 6 months after that. The symptoms you're describing, especially the timing (when the engine's warm) and the mileage, sound exactly like my wiring problem. The fact it's happening more in warm conditions is a really typical sign, that's when those sensor connections tend to act up the most. Quick tip from my experience, ask your mechanic to check all the sensor connections in that area, not just the knock sensor wiring. When I had mine fixed, they found a couple other iffy connections that could've caused problems down the line. Better to catch everything while they're in there! Also, make sure they scan for any stored error codes. My Range Rover had a few that really helped pinpoint exactly which connections were loose. The jerking during acceleration was actually what convinced me to get it checked out ASAP, didn't want to risk any engine damage. Let us know what your mechanic finds! Fingers crossed it's just the wiring like mine was. These Land Rovers might be temperamental sometimes, but they're solid cars when everything's properly connected.
Thanks so much for all the detailed advice! You've been incredibly helpful with sharing your Range Rover experiences. It's really reassuring to know you've dealt with both the wiring and knock sensor issues, gives me a much better perspective on what I might be facing. Just got off the phone with my mechanic and booked it in for tomorrow morning. I took your advice and specifically mentioned checking all the sensor connections in that area, not just the knock sensor wiring. Also asked about getting those error codes scanned, really smart suggestion! You're absolutely right about not wanting to risk engine damage. The jerking during acceleration has been making me nervous, so I'm relieved I'll be getting it looked at soon. I've also noticed it's been particularly bad these past few warm days, which seems to match up perfectly with what you experienced. I'll definitely update once I know what's going on with it. Really hoping it turns out to be just a wiring issue like yours. Thanks again for taking the time to share all this, it's been super helpful in making me feel more confident about getting it sorted!
Hey there! I have some experience working on cars and went through something very similar with my 2007 Land Rover Range Rover (also gasoline engine). Had almost identical symptoms, engine light, power loss, jerking, weird noises. Turned out to be a faulty sensor cable/plug connection. Got it fixed at my regular workshop last year, they replaced the wiring and it cost me around 95 Euro. Car's been running smoothly since then. Before jumping to conclusions about the knock sensor though, could you share: Current mileage? When was your last service? Any other warning lights besides the engine light? Does it happen more when the engine is cold or warm? This info would help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had with my Range Rover. These Land Rovers can be tricky, but usually it's something fixable without breaking the bank.
