Disco's Mysterious Tire Pressure Drop: Help Needed

Tire pressure to low

Hey all, having issues with my 2003 Discovery diesel. My tire pressure warning keeps coming on, and I've noticed all tires are consistently losing pressure faster than normal. Already checked for visible punctures but found nothing obvious. Has anyone dealt with similar pressure loss on their Disco? What did the repair shop find and how did they fix it? Really need some guidance here before heading to the mechanic.

I've got some experience working on cars and had a similar issue with my 2001 Range Rover diesel a couple years back. Super frustrating when those tire pressure warnings keep popping up! In my case, it turned out the TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors were failing. Got it checked at my regular workshop, and they found corroded sensors that were giving false readings and not sealing properly. Had to replace all four sensors, which set me back about 625 Euro, but it fixed the issue completely. Before you head to the shop though, what Disco model do you have exactly (TD5, V6)? Also, have you noticed if it's worse in certain weather conditions? This info would help me share more relevant details from my experience. Just a heads up, might be worth getting the valve stems checked too while you're at it. Sometimes it's not just the sensors but the whole assembly causing the leak.

Thanks for your detailed reply! I've got the TD5 Discovery with 109859 KM on the clock. Had it serviced three months ago, and everything was fine until this tire pressure issue started. You might be onto something with the TPMS sensors. I've noticed it's getting worse when temperatures drop at night. All four tires lose about 3-4 PSI every couple of days, which seems way too quick. I'm getting tired of constantly refilling them at this point. I'll definitely have the valve stems checked along with the sensors. Really hoping it's not a bigger issue. Thanks for sharing your experience, it helps narrow down where to look first!

Hey again! Yeah, your symptoms sound exactly like what I dealt with on my Rover. When you mentioned the temperature-related pressure drops, it really clicked, that's precisely what I experienced before getting my TPMS sensors replaced. Like you, I was going crazy with constant refills every few days. My TD5 was losing about 3-5 PSI as well, and it was such a pain! The nighttime temperature changes were definitely making it more noticeable. At first, I thought maybe I was just being paranoid about the pressure drops, but nope, it was definitely the sensors acting up. Quick tip from my experience, when they check your valve stems, ask them to look at the sensor seals too. Mine were pretty degraded, which contributed to the leaks. Also, if you're going to replace the sensors, I'd recommend doing all four at once. I initially only changed two of them and ended up having to go back for the others a month later anyway. Could've saved myself some time and hassle! Keep us posted on what you find out. Really interested to hear if it's the same issue I had with mine!

Thanks so much for all the great advice! It's such a relief to hear from someone who's been through the exact same thing. You've definitely convinced me about the TPMS sensors being the likely culprit, especially since our symptoms match so closely. I'll take your advice and have them replace all four sensors at once, makes total sense to avoid multiple trips to the shop. I've already called my mechanic and booked it in for next week. They quoted me around 600 for a complete sensor replacement, which sounds about right based on what you paid. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and all those helpful tips about checking the seals and valve stems too. Will definitely update once I get it sorted. Fingers crossed it's as straightforward as your repair was!
