Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed? Trying to figure out if I should prepare my wallet for more surprises down the road...
Hey there! Yeah, since my last reply I can give you the exact numbers, I paid 110€ for fixing that cable connection issue between the door handle electronics and the control unit. The mechanic pointed out it was a pretty straightforward fix once they identified the problem. I'm actually really happy to report that since getting it fixed, I haven't had a single electrical problem with my Diamante. The central locking works perfectly now, and those annoying flickering lights are completely gone. It's been such a relief not having to worry about being locked out of my car anymore! From my experience, once you get this specific issue sorted out, you shouldn't need to keep your wallet on standby for more electrical problems. These Mitsubishis are pretty reliable once you address the root cause. Just make sure you get a mechanic who knows what they're doing with Mitsubishi electrical systems, and you should be good to go!
Thanks so much for all the details! I actually took your advice and got it fixed yesterday. Found a Mitsubishi specialist who knew exactly what he was talking about. You were spot on, it was the corroded wiring harness causing all the trouble. My bill came to about 130€, which wasn't too bad considering how worried I was about potential costs. The mechanic was actually really cool about explaining everything. He showed me the old wiring and how it had gotten damaged over time. Best part is, everything's working perfectly now! The central locking clicks like new, and those annoying flickering lights are history. Really glad I asked here instead of going back to my old mechanic. You saved me from probably getting overcharged or having the wrong thing fixed. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it made the whole process way less stressful!
Had a similar issue with my 2004 Mitsubishi Diamante last summer. The central locking system failed completely, and I noticed weak interior lights too. My trusted mechanic found that the cable connection between the door handle electronics and the main control unit was corroded and partially disconnected. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness and reconnecting the door handle electronics properly. It wasn't a major repair, but it needed to be done by someone who knows these Mitsubishi systems well. The problem never came back after fixing it. From your description, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. Definitely get it checked by a mechanic who specializes in Mitsubishi electrical systems, it's not something you want a general mechanic guessing at.
