The whole thing was definitely not a walk in the park, it was a pretty serious problem. Without this part working properly, everything goes haywire. So your gut feeling about the swirl flap control could very well be correct. I can only advise you to have it checked as soon as possible. Waiting any longer could lead to further damage.
