Difficulties with Peugeot 4007 Diesel: Engine light, loss of power and rough running

Hey guys, my Peugeot 4007 Diesel from 2007 with already 186881 KM on the clock has a lot of problems: Engine light is on, loss of power, rough engine running, won't start, jerks when accelerating and stalls at idle. After my last horror experience at the mechanic, I'm worried. I think it could be the camshaft sensor that's going crazy. Have any of you experienced anything similar? How was it with your mechanic? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2007 Peugeot 4007 Diesel is experiencing multiple issues, including the engine light being on, loss of power, rough running, starting problems, jerking during acceleration, and stalling at idle. The suspected cause is a malfunctioning camshaft sensor, but similar cases have shown that the issue might also involve a defective master gear or encoder wheel on the camshaft. The recommended solution is a thorough check by a mechanic, potentially involving the replacement of these components to restore the car's performance.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I once had similar problems with my 2010 Peugeot 508. It was a challenge for my mechanic. It turned out that the master gear on the camshaft was defective. It was a serious issue, the engine wasn't even running stable, think loss of power and uneven engine running. My mechanic had to replace the master gear and also checked the camshaft sensor, which fortunately was OK. So be prepared for the possibility that it's not just the sensor. These are definitely not minor issues and require a thorough check. But once it's done, the car will run like new again. Hope that helps you. Get it fixed and cheer up, it'll be fine!

Oh man, sounds like a real nightmare! I also had a problem with my car, similar to yours. Did they have to replace the encoder wheel or was it just the camshaft sensor? Do you remember how much the repair cost? And have there been any further problems since then or has everything gone smoothly? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I can totally understand your concerns, it was a bit of a pain with my car too! Well, in my case, the encoder wheel on the camshaft was actually defective and had to be replaced, which cost me a hefty €695, no walk in the park. But it was absolutely necessary. The camshaft sensor was also in a pretty miserable state and since it was fixed, everything has been running smoothly and the annoying problems are gone. Since I've been to the mechanic, the malfunction of the camshaft sensor has definitely been fixed and my 2010 Peugeot 508 is running smoothly again! So cheer up, after the repair everything will be as it was before. Hopefully I was able to give you some encouragement!

Wow, that's a really big swing! 695 €! Oh man, I kind of feared something like that ... But I can see it's a must. The car really can't go any further like this. Many thanks for your helpful advice and experience reports! They have given me a lot of courage. Nevertheless, I'll be glad when the mechanic is finally done with it. I'll keep you up to date on how things go for me. Thanks again, guys!
