Difficulties with cold starts and low battery in a 2020 Ford Transit - looking for advice and experience

Weak battery when starting the engine

|

Longer cold start time

|

Car won't start

Hi guys, I hope you are all well. Unfortunately, I'm having a few problems with my 2020 Ford Transit petrol (mileage: 145,462 km). It takes longer to start when cold, sometimes won't start at all and the battery is weak when starting. My guess is that the battery sensor is faulty. Have any of you had similar experiences, especially when visiting the garage? I had bad luck last time. I would appreciate your advice and opinions. Thanks in advance!

Hi, had the same problem with my 2017 Ford Fiesta. In my case the culprit was a faulty microprocessor in the battery sensor. It didn't seem that serious, but then the battery started causing problems. I also had longer cranking times on cold starts, same as yours. After several attempts it started. At the garage they told me that this can be a common problem. They replaced the battery sensor and reset the control unit. Since then, my car has been running like clockwork again and I've had no more problems. It seemed like a fairly harmless problem at first, but it could turn into a real headache if not treated properly. So best off to the workshop! Hope this helps you. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your answer! That sounds almost exactly like my problem. Do you happen to remember how much you paid for the repair? And has anything else come up since then that might be related? Really glad someone has been through the same thing! I hope my Transit will be running like clockwork again soon too.

Sure, I can remember that! I had to pay €315 to repair the defective battery sensor microprocessor. I know it sounds like a lot at first, but since the mechanic replaced the sensor, everything has been really great again. So far, nothing else has come up that could be related to it. So don't worry, your Transit will soon be running smoothly again!

Thank you for the helpful information! It's a bit reassuring to know what to expect and how much it might cost. I'm off to the workshop tomorrow. Hopefully everything will be fit again. Your advice was very valuable and I'm glad that there are nice people like you here. Thanks again and stay healthy!

Hi Tassen56, it sounds like you've already done a lot of work on your Transit. Since the problem started when you switched to winter diesel, it could be related to the fuel system. Winter diesel can sometimes gel or wax in cold temperatures, which can cause starting problems. Try adding a diesel fuel additive that's designed to prevent gelling. If that doesn't work, you may want to have a mechanic inspect your fuel system, especially the fuel pump and injectors. Please keep us updated on your progress. Do you have any other questions?
