Hey, that doesn't sound so great! Your description also reminds me of a problem I had with my Omega a few years ago. Thanks for the detailed answer, Person2. A specialist garage is definitely a good idea. To Person2, can you remember the cost of the repair? And did you have any other problems after the repair or was everything ok? Cheers!

Hello, yes, that brings back a few memories! Repairing the wiring harness was a bit of an investment, to be honest. I put €180 on the table for it and it looks like it was worth it. As for the gear selector, no more worries since I went to the mechanic. No spinning, no whining, no grinding. Everything works perfectly again! So, don't hang your head. Your Omega will also regain its former glory, for sure! Cheers!

Thanks guys! You've really put my mind at rest. 180 is quite a lot, but after hearing that your cars ran smoothly again afterwards, I'm prepared to pay that. I'll definitely look around for a garage that specializes in electrics and electronics. Hopefully everything will run smoothly and my beloved Omega will be back to its former glory! Thank you again and have a nice evening! Bye!

Hi mate, that does sound like a fault in the wiring harness. I drive a 1998 Opel Vectra and had similar signs recently. My gauge was acting up and shifting was anything but smooth! The diagnosis was a faulty wiring harness. It can be a bit of a laborious job as the wiring loom is basically the nervous system of your car. Mine actually had to have the entire wiring harness replaced. It's also a precise job because everything has to be realigned and wired cleanly. Yes, this is definitely a serious problem. But it's better to fix it now before it potentially causes more damage. My tip for you would be to look for a workshop that specializes specifically in electrics and electronics. These workshops usually have more experience with such specific problems. Good luck with the repair! Greetings!
