Loss of engine power

Hey everyone! Got a frustrating situation with my 2016 Honda Mobilio diesel (119k km). The engine's been acting up lately, black smoke, power loss, and this annoying hissing/whistling when I accelerate. Check engine light is also on. Fuel consumption has gone through the roof, and there's a strong exhaust smell. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm looking for advice. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Sounds like a boost pressure issue to me, but I'd love to hear your experiences and recommendations for reliable mechanics who've fixed similar problems. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had nearly identical symptoms with my 2013 Honda CR-V diesel last year. After checking several components, my mechanic found a damaged wiring harness connected to the boost pressure actuator. The insulation was worn through, causing intermittent signal issues to the turbo system. The repair required replacing the entire wiring harness assembly since the damaged section couldn't be safely patched. It was a serious issue that needed immediate attention, running the car in that condition risks damaging the turbo and engine components. The fix took about 4-5 hours of labor, and the symptoms completely disappeared afterward. Normal power returned, black smoke gone, and fuel consumption went back to normal. The whistling sound was actually boost pressure escaping due to the system not regulating properly. Don't wait too long to get it fixed, the symptoms won't improve on their own. Make sure whoever works on it has experience with diesel turbo systems. Good luck with the repair!

Wow, thanks for sharing your experience! Sounds exactly like what I'm going through with my Honda. Glad you got it sorted out. Did you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Just want to know what I might be in for.

Hey again! Happy to help out! Yeah, I got it fixed two weeks ago and it cost me 155 Euro to repair the wiring harness. It was worth every penny though, my CR-V is running like a dream now. The mechanic actually showed me on his diagnostic tool that the Deviation in the boost pressure control was completely fixed after the repair. Haven't had a single problem since then, no more black smoke, weird noises, or power issues. Fuel consumption is back to normal too. It's such a relief not having that constant worry about damaging the turbo anymore. One thing I learned from this, these modern diesel engines are really sensitive to boost pressure problems, so it's worth getting them checked out quickly when symptoms show up. The repair was actually cheaper than I expected, considering how much trouble it was causing. Let me know how your repair goes! Always good to hear how these things turn out.

Thanks for all the great info! Just got back from the mechanic today and wanted to update you. You were spot on, it was indeed a wiring harness issue. My repair bill came to about 180 Euro, a bit more than yours but still reasonable considering the hassle it was causing. The mechanic I found was really thorough. He spent about 5 hours on it, tested everything, and even showed me the old damaged wiring. Already did a test drive and wow, what a difference! No more black smoke, the engine's got its power back, and that annoying whistle is completely gone. It's such a relief to have this fixed. Should've done it sooner honestly, but at least it's sorted now. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction, definitely saved me from a potentially bigger headache! By the way, car's running perfectly smooth now. Feels like I've got a new engine! Can't believe such a small wiring problem could cause so much trouble.

Let our mechanics help you!
