Diesel Lexus LX 2021: Identifying Cause of Recent Performance Issues

Shaking while idling

Stalling while idling

Whistling noise

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Loud hissing on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Hey fellow motorheads, I've got a 2021 Diesel Lexus LX showing some concerning symptoms, and could use some experienced inputs. It's sitting at about 186,316 km on the mileage counter and recently started acting up with these issues: black smoke on acceleration, check engine light, shunted power, wobbly engine, jerking and hissing when I hit the gas, idling issues causing it to stall, shakes at idle, and an odd whistle-like sound. I had a shifty experience with my last mechanic, so before I consult another one, I'm thinking the root cause could be a faulty Boost pressure control position sensor. Has anybody dealt with something similar to this? What was your experience solving this at your mechanic's? Cheers for any insights you guys can offer!

Hey, your issue sounds eerily similar to what I experienced with my 2018 Diesel Lexus LX a while back. It was pulling the same antics - black smoke, shaky idle, mysterious whistling, the whole caboodle. In my case, the culprit was indeed the Electrical bypass valve, or as you noted, the Boost pressure control position sensor. From what I've learned, this little bugger is critical in regulating the turbocharger’s boost pressure and diverts excess exhaust gases. When it goes south, it causes poor engine performance - the sort you've been having. My local garage caught the issue during a routine inspection after I'd been complaining about a shaky idle and check engine light. Let's just say, it had me a tad worried. They performed an ECU diagnostic to confirm it. Took a while to find the part but once they replaced it, my LEXUS was back to its old self. Bottom line, get it checked out pronto. If it's acting the same as what mine did, then you're probably onto something. Give me a buzz once you've sorted it out. Cheers and good luck!

Hey there, your experience sounds like it's hitting the nail on the head with my Lexus issues. Mad helpful to hear from someone who's been through a similar ordeal. Cheers for sharing that! Funny how a little critter like a boost pressure sensor can cause such a slew of problems, isn't it? I'm going to set up a rendezvous with a local garage to have it checked out as you suggested. I just hope I don't see that check engine light again. If you don't mind me asking, do you recall how much they charged you for the ECU diagnostic and replacing that sensor? And since that fix, did any other related or new issues pop up? I wanna be prepared mentally and financially. Thanks a lot!

Hey, totally get your curiosity about the costs - no one likes unexpected hits on the wallet! So, off the top of my head, the ECU diagnosis along with a remedy for the Electrical bypass valve defective issue ended up costing me around 250€. Go figure, these minor issues can make a major dent in your pocket! And oh, once they fixed that pesky Boost pressure control position sensor, the good times rolled again for my Lexus. I was grinning from ear to ear every time I hit the road. Thankfully, no exchange with the mechanic since! So, based on my experience, the fix was definitely worth the cost. Looking forward to hearing from you once you've got your baby sorted. Fingers crossed for you! Cheers!

Aye! That clears up a lot for me. Bit steep on the price for my liking, but as you said, minor issues can be a major pain in the neck, not to mention the pocket! I'm already imagining driving my Lexus without any of these engine tantrums and hoping for a similar outcome as yours. If the results are promising, it'd indeed be worth every cent. I'll set up an appointment pronto and let you know once the ordeal's dealt with. It's sweeter when you've been through the same chaos, and your Lexus came out tops. Puts a lot of things in perspective for me. Fingers firmly crossed. Cheers for the info! Much appreciated!
