Diesel 2011 Lexus LX Exhibiting Symptoms of Exhaust Gas Back Pressure Sensor Failure

Check engine light on

DPF regeneration failure

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Loss of engine power

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

|

Unsteady engine

Hey everyone, I'm currently dealing with a tough situation with my diesel 2011 Lexus LX, sitting at 171350 KM. Spotting black smoke from the exhaust when I accelerate, engine's not steady and definitely lost some power. Check engine light keeps flashing too. Fuel economy's in the dumps and I think my DPF is failing to regenerate as well. Based on these, I think it might be a failure in the exhaust gas back pressure sensor on the diesel particulate filter. Had a bit of a nightmare last time at the mechanic's so kind of hesitant to go back. Have any of you guys experienced anything like this? What was your experience like with your own mechanics dealing with such issues? Would appreciate any insight!

Hey! Sounds pretty similar to what I stumbled across with my 2011 Lexus LX. Engine was rough, a noticeable power drop and that flashing engine light doesn't do you any favours, eh? Suspected a loaded DPF, similar to your thoughts. Honestly, I reckon you've nailed it with your diagnosis - a blocked or heavily loaded DPF can definitely cause a loss in engine power, reduced fuel economy and even prompt that annoying check-engine light to start acting up. Last time I had the Lexus in the garage, turns out the DPF was clogged up real bad and it was a pretty serious issue that needed immediate attention. They explained that the exhaust gas back pressure sensor plays a crucial role in maintaining the adequate back pressure to ensure the DPF's proper regeneration, so a fault in it ain't doing any good to your ride. To fix my beast, they had to manually clean the DPF. Now here's where mechanics can get tricky - some might suggest replacing it completely, but I'd say start with a good old manual clean and a reset of the sensor. If the issue pops up again afterwards, then consider a replacement. All in all, despite the hassle, it wasn't as bad as I initially imagined. Just a heads up, you might want to sort this out sooner rather than later. If left ignored for too long, these symptoms can progressively worsen and lead to larger, more complicated issues. Cheers and best of luck with your LX!

Hey there, Just read through your experience and trust me, sounds a whole lot like my own nightmare with my 2011 Lexus LX diesel. That bloody sensor problem gave me a real headache! I can definitely relate to the power loss, constant flashing check engine light, and horrible fuel efficiency. I mean, you seem to have it all figured out, pointing out the exhaust gas back pressure sensor. that's the exact issue I had! I remember my mechanic had to give the DPF a good clean after which my ride was back to normal. But I'm curious, do you happen to remember how much you had to pay for fixing it up? And, since you got it sorted, did any other issue come up afterward? Really appreciate you sharing your experience with us. Gotta love the community here, eh? Cheers!

Hey there, That sounds exactly like my scenario a while back with my Lexus LX. That ruddy sensor drove me up the wall, I tell ya! The drop in power, that constant flashing of the check engine light, and the abysmal fuel consumption, all felt all too familiar! And yep, you hit the nail right on the head! The culprit in my situation was indeed the exhaust gas back pressure sensor and after a thorough clean up of the DPF, my ride was back in its prime. About the cost, well it hit me for a decent sum. Had to shell out about 1325€ to sort the bugger out. But since then? Smooth sailing! No recurring problems related to this, fingers crossed. It's all about looking out for each other, right? Glad I could give a bit of insight from my own bumpy ride. Good luck with your Lexus! Cheers!

Hey, really appreciate you guys chipping in and sharing your similar experiences! It's comforting to know that I'm not the only one who's come across these issues on the Lexus LX. Sounds like I've been pretty spot on with my self-diagnosis – it's likely the exhaust back pressure sensor malfunctioning and messing up the DPF. Definitely gonna get the whomp on this soon before it escalates into a much worst problem. As for dealing with a mechanic... well, I wish I could take your advice and do the clean up myself, save some bucks. But I reckon I'd just cause more chaos! The cost does come as a bit of a surprise though. Well, as they say, can't put a price on peace of mind! Good to hear both of your rides are now humming along nicely after the repairs. Gives me hope that once sorted, I can enjoy some smooth cruising again, without adding any new issues to the list! Once again, thanks for the help, fellas, it's hugely appreciated! Keep safe and happy motoring! Cheers!
