Deteriorating Fuel Efficiency and Performance in 2022 Lexus NX: Seeking Advice

Strong exhaust smell

|

Check engine light on

|

Loss of engine power

|

Poor fuel economy

|

Shaking while idling

Hey! I'm hoping I could get some advice about an ongoing issue with my 2022 Lexus NX. It's a gas engine model, clocked about 193,917 KM on it. Now, she's been acting different lately - shaving off fuel economy, shaking while idling, check engine light's been lit up too. Even lost some engine power and there's this quite potent exhaust smell. Looks like rough running issues to me, but then I'm no mechanic! Had a pretty rotten experience last time I took her to one. Anyone here have had similar problems with their ride? How'd it go at your mechanic? Any insight would be much appreciated!

Hey, my 2019 Lexus RX had similar symptoms a while back. I had shaky idles and a dip in power, just like you. The exhaust did give a nasty smell, hinting that something's not right. Turned out, it was defective fuel injectors. They needed to be replaced because they were clogged and just not delivering fuel properly, messing up the air-fuel mixture. That's probably why your fuel economy's taking a hit. This also explains the shaking at idle. If you ask me, it's a serious issue because driving with faulty injectors can seriously damage the engine over time if you ignore it, not to mention it directly affects your driving experience. Got the injectors replaced, cleaned the fuel system, and threw in a new air filter for good measure. Felt like a brand new car afterward, all issues resolved. So, head to a good mechanic and get it checked!

Hi there, thanks a lot for the advice. Seems like your experience with your Lexus RX was pretty similar to my situation. Definitely going to give the fuel injector angle a serious consideration. About the cost, if you don't mind me asking, how hard was it on your wallet to get those injectors replaced and the system cleaned? Any extra issues popping up since? Really appreciate your input!

Hey, glad to hear you found the previous advice helpful. To answer your question, it set me back about 515 Euro to make those pesky injectors behave again. But honestly, it was absolutely worth it. Since the trip to the mechanic and the repairs, my Lexus has been as smooth as a dream, not a hint of rough running. So, I reckon it's a small price to pay, especially considering the potential damage you'd be saving your engine from. And to top it off, no new issues have cropped up since then, fingers crossed! Hope things pan out well for your NX too!

Great info! That price seems reasonable, considering the peace of mind it promises. I'm all for saving my engine and rescuing my poor NX from any more issues. With your advice, I'm definitely going to take her to a decent mechanic to get those damn injectors and the whole fuel system checked out. Here's hoping for a smooth ride post repairs, just like your Lexus! Fingers crossed, indeed! Thanks again for all the help, really appreciate it. Take care!
