At the garage they replaced the faulty connector and re-established the cable connection. It wasn't rocket science, but you needed the right tools and know-how to get to the cables. Since the visit to the workshop, no further problems have arisen and the defect in the exterior mirror or the exterior mirror heater has been rectified. The heater has been running like clockwork ever since. Really, no further problems since then!
