Defender Hybrid Alarm Issues, Tilt Sensor Alert

Alarm system malfunctions

Hey all, my 2020 Defender Hybrid has been acting up lately with unusual alarm triggers. I suspect the tilt sensor might be causing these false alarms. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would love to hear about your experiences, especially regarding repair solutions and what your mechanics found. What was the actual fix in your case? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there! I've got some experience working on cars. I had a similar problem with my 2018 Discovery Hybrid last year, the alarm would go off out of nowhere, usually in the middle of the night. Super annoying! After several false alarms, I took it to my regular workshop. Turned out it was faulty sensors in the alarm system, they were sending incorrect signals. The fix cost me around 250 Euro, but it was worth every penny since the problem never came back. Before you head to a mechanic though, what year is your Defender exactly, and have you noticed any pattern to when these false alarms occur? Like in specific weather conditions or after locking the car in a particular way? This info could help narrow down the issue. Trust me, I know how frustrating unusual alarms can be! Let me know these details and I might be able to share more specific advice from my experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My Defender is a 2020 model and I've got 60082 KM on it, just had the annual service done last month. Actually, I've noticed the alarms tend to trigger more during rainy weather, which makes me think moisture might be getting somewhere it shouldn't. It's pretty unusual though, sometimes in the morning, sometimes late at night. Really driving me crazy! I'm hoping it's just a sensor issue like yours was. Did your mechanic mention anything specific about the sensor locations or common failure points? I'd rather avoid multiple garage visits if possible, so any specifics would help me point them in the right direction. Really appreciate your input on this, dealing with unusual alarms is definitely not fun!

Hey again! Man, what you mentioned about the rainy weather is like déjà vu, that's exactly how mine started acting up too! You know what's interesting? My Discovery was doing the same thing around the 55000 KM mark, so we're in a similar boat here. When I mentioned the rain connection to my mechanic, he actually found that moisture was seeping into the connector housing of the alarm sensor unit. These connectors are supposed to be completely sealed, but apparently they can deteriorate over time. In my case, they ended up replacing both the sensor and the connector housing, that's why it cost around 250 Euro. The mechanic showed me the old parts, and you could actually see some corrosion on the connector pins. Pretty wild how a tiny bit of moisture can cause such a headache! Quick tip though, before you take it in, maybe try parking it in a garage or under cover for a few days if you can, just to rule out any current moisture issues. Mine would actually behave perfectly fine when kept dry for a while, which really helped confirm the moisture theory. Let me know how you get on with it! These Land Rover security systems can be tricky beasts sometimes, but once you sort them out, they're usually good to go for the long haul.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info, it's super helpful! The moisture issue definitely sounds like what I'm dealing with. Actually, now that you mention it, the alarm has been better during the dry spells, which totally fits with your experience. I'm going to try your suggestion about keeping it covered for a few days to test the moisture theory. Really appreciate you mentioning the specific issue with the connector housing too, that'll be super useful when I talk to my mechanic. At least now I won't be going in blind, and 250 Euro seems reasonable if it fixes the problem for good. It's such a relief to hear from someone who's dealt with the same issue and got it sorted. Thanks again for taking the time to share all this, you've saved me a lot of headache and potentially multiple trips to the garage! I'll definitely update the forum once I get it fixed in case anyone else runs into the same problem.
