Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2015 Citroen C5 Tourer. In my case, it was actually the blower motor that was defective. My mechanic fixed it without making a big mess. It was kind of serious because you don't want to drive in the winter without heating and in the summer without air conditioning, but it wasn't like my car's judgment was a disaster. Sure, I still remember the cost. It cost me €365 to repair the blower motor. But let me tell you, it was worth every single coin, because since then the fresh air blower has been running like the first day, no more sweating in summer and freezing in winter.
