Thanks for sharing your experience! Pretty much confirms what I was worried about with the clock spring. Same symptoms on my Disco, complete failure of all controls. Just out of curiosity, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? And has everything been working properly since the fix? Been a bit nervous about potential electrical gremlins popping up elsewhere.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. I ended up paying €95 for the repair, much less than I initially feared. They found and fixed some damaged cables in the steering wheel, and I'm happy to report everything's working perfectly now! Since getting it sorted at the mechanic's, all the buttons are responding great, volume control, cruise control, everything. Such a relief to have it working properly again. No electrical gremlins have shown up either, so looks like the cable issue was isolated to just the steering wheel controls. Good thing I got it checked out when I did. The fix was straightforward once they identified the problem. Haven't had a single problem with the controls since then, it's like having a brand new steering wheel! Let me know if you need any other info about my Range Rover TD6 experience. I can totally understand being nervous about electrical issues, but sometimes it's simpler than we fear. Hope this helps with your decision!

Thanks for the detailed info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today. Found a reputable shop through a and I'm glad I did. Your situation was really similar to mine, damaged wiring in the clock spring assembly. The repair cost me a bit more at €150, but they did a thorough job and even found a loose connection in the steering column they fixed at no extra charge. They had it done in about three hours, which wasn't bad at all. Just drove home testing all the buttons, cruise control, audio, everything's working perfectly! Such a relief to have it sorted. The mechanic showed me the old damaged cables, and wow, they were in rough shape. Can't believe I was worried about going to a shop. Sometimes you just need to find the right place. Really appreciate everyone's help on this. It's good to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with these steering wheel gremlins. Time to enjoy my fully functional controls again!

I had the same problem with my '03 Range Rover TD6 last year. The steering wheel controls just stopped working completely, no response from any button. Initially thought it was just a fuse, but when I took it to the garage, they found the clock spring (spiral cable) was damaged. It's a common issue in these models, the cable inside the steering wheel that maintains electrical connections while turning gets worn out over time. The repair involved replacing the complete clock spring assembly and reprogramming the steering wheel control module. It wasn't a quick fix since they had to remove the airbag and steering wheel to access the clock spring. Not something you can really DIY because of the airbag involvement, too risky. And yes, it was quite serious since the clock spring also handles the airbag connections. Worth getting it checked soon. My advice: Find a specialist who knows Land Rover electronics well. The diagnosis needs proper equipment to test the circuits.
