Dead Seat Heaters in my Colt, Mechanic Help Needed

Seat heating without function

Hey everyone, my 2009 Mitsubishi Colt (1.3L gas engine, 82,576 km) has completely stopped working when it comes to seat heating. Had some bad experiences with local mechanics before, so I'm a bit cautious about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar seat heating issues in their Colt? Would love to hear your experiences and maybe get some recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who've fixed this problem. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had the exact same issue with my 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer (1.6L gas). The seat heating just died one day completely. Took it to my regular mechanic, and it turned out the heating mat under the seat fabric was defective, pretty common issue actually. They had to remove the seat cover and replace the entire heating element. Got it fixed last month, and it wasn't really a complex repair, but it needed special tools to properly remove the seat cover without damaging it. The whole thing took about 2 hours. Now it's working perfectly again. Just make sure whoever does it has experience with car interior work, not every mechanic specializes in this.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful. I'm dealing with exactly what you described. Would you mind sharing how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks? Trying to get a sense of what I'm in for cost-wise and whether I should expect any follow-up issues.

Hey again! Glad to give you an update! After taking my Lancer to the mechanic, they sorted out the seat heating issue completely. Ended up costing me 390€, that covered both parts and labor. I know that might sound a bit steep, but honestly, it was worth every penny, especially now that winter's coming! The heating has been working like a charm since the fix, no problems or weird temperature fluctuations at all. It's actually working better than it did before it died, if you can believe it! The mechanic mentioned the new heating mat they installed was an improved version compared to the original one. You shouldn't have to worry about any follow-up issues. It's been about a month now, and I've been using it daily with zero problems. They did a really clean job with the seat cover too, you can't even tell they had to take it apart. Let me know if you end up getting it fixed. Would be interesting to hear if your experience is similar to mine!

Thanks so much for all the details! I actually went ahead and got it fixed last week at a mechanic my colleague recommended. You were spot on about the heating mat being the issue. My repair came in a bit cheaper at 320€, guess I got lucky there! The whole process was pretty smooth. Dropped off my Colt in the morning, and they had it ready by late afternoon. The mechanic was really upfront about everything and even showed me the old heating mat, it was definitely toast! I've been using it for a few days now, and wow, what a difference. The seat heats up way more evenly than before. Really appreciate everyone's help here. Saved me from stressing too much about it, and now I've found a mechanic I can trust for future issues. Feels good to have warm seats again, especially with these chilly mornings! Take care, everyone!
