Dead Power Seat in VW Nivus Needs Quick Fix

Looking for urgent advice, my passenger power seat stopped working completely and throws an error code. The seat motor seems dead and wont respond to any adjustment commands through the seat switch. Car has 77133km, its a 2022 VW Nivus with gasoline engine. Has anyone dealt with similar seat wiring issues and can recommend what to expect at the repair shop? My last mechanic visit wasnt great, so hoping to be better prepared this time. What were your repair costs for similar automotive seat problems?

Recently had a comparable issue with my 2019 VW T-Cross. The power seats completely failed, showing similar symptoms to what you describe. The main problem turned out to be a faulty seat harness connection that had worn through due to constant seat movement. The repair required: Complete diagnostic scan of the seat control module, Removal of the passenger seat, Replacement of the main seat wiring harness, Installation of new power seat motor It was a serious repair that took about 4-5 hours of labor. The seat wiring needed to be threaded carefully through the frame to prevent future wear. The automotive seat assembly had to be partially disassembled to access all connection points. Worth noting that when power seats fail, its rarely just a fuse issue. The complete failure of response from the controls typically indicates either a blown motor or damaged seat harness. Since your vehicle is newer, its likely a wiring issue rather than motor failure. Recommend having a certified shop perform the repair, as proper routing of the new seat harness is crucial to prevent the same issue from recurring.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I actually had that same problem last year with my Nivus passenger seat. The seat switch and adjustment controls completely died one morning. Your repair list matches what I had to get done too, harness replacement and a new seat motor were needed. Been wondering about your final repair cost since my bill was fairly high. Also curious if your seat adjustment system has worked perfectly since the fix or if youve noticed any new quirks? Mine occasionally makes an odd noise now when moving forward, though the controls all work fine.

Had the repair done last week and everything was fixed properly. The passenger seat adjustments now work smoothly without any strange noises. The total came to 290€, which mainly covered a new battery that was heavily discharged, turns out this was causing the seat motor issues. Much simpler fix than I initially expected, since the seat harness and electrical connections were actually fine. The mechanic explained that a weak battery can cause the seat switch and power adjustment system to malfunction, making it seem like a more serious problem with the seat motor. The shop did a full diagnostic on the car seat electrical system to confirm there were no other underlying issues. Really glad I went to this mechanic for a second opinion rather than jumping straight into replacing the entire seat harness and motor like the first shop suggested. Unlike your situation with occasional noises, the passenger seat movement is now completely quiet and responsive. Might be worth having your mechanic check the seat motor alignment if youre still hearing those sounds during forward adjustments.

After getting that helpful reply, I decided to get my Nivus checked at a new repair shop. The experience was much better than my previous mechanic visits. The technician found the seat wiring issue quickly, turned out the main seat harness was damaged where it connects to the seat adjustment controls. Total repair came to 480€ including parts and labor. They replaced the worn seat harness and recalibrated the power seat system. The whole job took about 3 hours. Really appreciate the detailed diagnostic work they did, checking all the seat switch connections before starting the repair. The passenger seat now works perfectly, no more error codes or strange noises during adjustments. Definitely worth finding a shop that specializes in automotive seat electronics. Their proper routing of the new seat harness should prevent any future wear issues. Just glad to have everything working normally again without having to replace the entire seat motor assembly.
