Dacia Sandero 2010: Dealing with Check Engine Light, Drop in Power and Starting Issues

Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Engine shuts off by itself

Car won't start

Check engine light on

Unsteady engine

Fault stored

Loss of engine power

Hey everyone, I've been having a rough time with my 2010 Dacia Sandero (gasoline, ran about 121,579 KM). The check engine light's on, loss of engine power, engine's been acting a bit funny and even shutting off on its own. Worst part, the car won't start! Noticed a warning light on the dashboard too, and it seems like it has stored some fault? I think it might be due to some error in engine control, but then I'm no mechanic. Also, I've had a pretty bad experience with my last mechanic, so hesitating to go back. Any of you guys had these issues before? Would appreciate any advice on this and would love to hear about your experiences with your own mechanics. Thanks!

Hey! I think I had a similar problem with my 2013 Dacia Logan. The engine kept turning off while driving and the check engine light was always on, pretty much what you're experiencing. Felt like I was losing power too occasionally. I took it to my local garage and from what I understand it turned out to be an issue with the crankshaft position sensor. Apparently, the crankshaft sensor was faulty, causing drop in power and in worst cases the engine shutting down. It also led to the engine control unit (ECU) storing a fault and hence, the warning light. Sounds like it might be pretty much what you’re talking about. It wasn't fun having my ride in the garage, I’ll tell you that much. But the guys at my garage really looked into it deeply and figured out what was wrong. So, yea, it was a serious issue but thankfully fixed in time. I'd suggest getting your car checked as soon as possible. And if you are not happy with your old mechanic, just look for a reputed local garage. Hope this helps, and I feel your pain!

Cheers for that! I've got a feeling my Sandero's throwing a pretty similar tantrum to your Logan. Crankshaft position sensor issue, huh? Sounds something worth checking out. Also, bloody glad that your local lads sorted it out for you. Kudos to them! Just wondering, do you recall approximately how much they took off your wallet for this? Wondering if I should mentally prepare myself for a bit of a sting. Plus, did this issue or anything related pop up again with your ride? I'm just hoping that if it's the same problem, it's a one-time fix. Thanks for sharing your experience though, appreciated!

Hey there! Yeah, your Sandero does indeed sound like it's suffering from the same problems my Logan came across. It's nice to have a hunch on what's wrong, makes the solution process a bit smoother, eh? When it comes to cost I won't sugarcoat it - it did cause a dent in the old wallet. My local guys charged me around 625 € to fix the defective component, which turned out to be the culprit behind the engine control issue. That being said, the peace of mind after sorting the problem out was well worth it! After the mechanic worked his magic, the bugger's been running pretty smoothly, no relapses or anything. So, if the diagnosis is right and it's the same component causing you grief, you might be looking at a long-term solution. Always keep those fingers crossed, fella! Hope this eases your mind a bit. Remember, once your wheels are back on the road, it’s all worth it in the end!

Hey, that's comforting to hear! Bit of a relief to have some kind of idea about the issue before going in blindly, indeed. Gosh, the cost part does sound nasty but given that it's possibly a one-time thing, I guess I can survive that blow. I would definitely trade it for getting my Sandero back to her glory days, no doubt. Nobody likes being stranded on the road, eh? You’re right, fingers are crossed hoping for a long-term solution! Nice of you to reassure me though! Appreciate your insights and sharing your own experience. Now I feel a bit more confident heading into this mechanic ordeal. Time to buck up and take the darn car in. Keep having smooth rides and those nasty engine lights at bay! Thanks again. Time for me to bite the bullet, eh! Good chat by the way. Let's keep rolling!
