Dacia Logan 2020 Overheating Issues and Persistent Check Engine Light: Seeking Advice

Check engine light on

Overheating

Hey! Hope everyone's doing well. I need a bit of advice. I drive a 2020 Dacia Logan, gasoline variant, with around 78,504 KM on the clock. Lately, I've been noticing a few red flags: my car has been overheating quite a bit, and the check engine light is constantly on. Given my limited knowledge, I'm leaning towards an issue with the auxiliary coolant pump... not sure though. My last visit to the mechanic was a bit of a disaster, so I'm trying to gather some intel before I head that way again. Has anyone experienced similar problems? Any tips or suggestions about dealing with such issues at the mechanic's? Would really appreciate your insights. Cheers!

Hey! It sounds like we are on the same boat. I drive a 2017 Dacia Sandero and had similar issues with overheating and the constant engine light. It turned out the problem wasn't because of the auxiliary coolant pump in my case, but a faulty cable connection. It might just be the same with your Logan. The cable connection can cause both the overheating and constant check engine light due to incorrect sensor readings which your ECU is most likely relying on to monitor the engine temperature. Last time I was at the garage, they spent a good bit of time diagnosing the issue, which involved various tests to pinpoint the problem. After rooting around, they figured out the fault lied in the cable connection, which was giving the wrong readings to the engine management system. You must mention the cable connection issue when you next visit your mechanic. It is important the mechanic doesn't overlook that. It's not a minor issue, it can potentially harm your engine if left unchecked over time. Hope this helps fingers crossed it's a quick fix for you! Cheers!

Hey there! Sounds about right! I had a similar scenario with my 2019 Dacia Duster. It was indeed a faulty cable connection messing up the sensor readings. My mechanic took quite some time to get to the root of it, but in the end it was sorted pretty decently. Do you remember ballpark what you paid to get this issue fixed? Also, have you faced any related or similar issues ever since? Your experience can give us a better idea of what may be in store for our fellow car owner here. Just goes to show how digital our gear has turned, even when we're talking cars. It's not always the big mechanical parts causing trouble! Keep us posted! Cheers!

Hey! Great to see your perspective. About the price, yeah, I do remember. Fixing the defective cable connection set me back about 170 Euro. That included the cost of labor and parts, and I've gotta say, it was worth every penny considering the peace of mind that followed. You know the adage, right? "Happy car, happy driver." After the necessary work on the cable connection, I haven't seen any similar issues cropping up. The devilish overheating and that pesky check engine light have become things of the past, thankfully! By the way, I noticed something interesting during that visit to the garage. Among other things, the mechanic tested the auxiliary coolant pump and, would you believe, it was malfunctioning! Got that sorted too. So, fellow Dacia driver, before you venture to your mechanic, might be worth considering these points. Remember, it's not just about the big parts, even a loose cable can cause a real headache. Stay safe and let's keep our engines cool. Cheers!

Hey there! Wow, so much to digest and appreciate. I can't thank you enough for chiming in with your advice and inputs. It indeed seems like I'm barking up the wrong tree focusing on the coolant pump alone. This won't be forgotten. I'll make sure to discuss the possible cable fault issue with my mechanic during my next visit. To think I've been looking at possible expensive part replacements when the problem could be as straightforward as a faulty cable, is making me heave a sigh of relief for sure. Good to know about the cost and, more importantly, the peace of mind following fixing the fault. That's what we all want ultimately, right? A smooth ride with no surprise visits to the garage. Thanks again for your responses and sharing your experience. It reinforced the fact that it's all about finding the correct issue, even if it's as small as a faulty cable. "Happy car, happy driver", totally agree with that. I'll keep my fingers crossed about the quick fix, and sure, will keep you posted on the developments. Cheers!
