Dacia Logan 2014: Solving Issues with Black Smoke, Power Loss and Engine Trouble, Potential Air Mass Sensor Problems

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Hey! I'm puzzled over here with my 2014 gasoline Dacia Logan. It's been acting up in some peculiar ways - think black smoke when accelerating, a glowing check engine light, the engine sputtering off, losing power, shaking and jerking particularly during accelerations. Fuel economy has gone down the drain too and it even stalls when idle. I have a hunch that it might be related to an air mass sensor issue. Has anyone experienced something like this and could share some insights? I'm mostly interested in how you got it sorted at the workshop, and any pearls of wisdom you picked up along the way. All experiences, tips and advice are welcomed! Thanks.

Hey there, seems like we've had a similar issue! My 2012 Dacia Duster was struggling with just about the same problems about a year back. I'd say I have some experience with cars, but I'm definitely not a mechanic. Took it to my local workshop. Friendly there. They found the problem to be a Mass Air Flow sensor defect. So, I decided to let them handle it. Cost me about 415 Euro, but the car's been running smoothly ever since. Just like new. Mind sharing some more details about your Logan? Like when you last serviced it and if there've been any recent changes? This could help me clarify things for you. Hope this helps a bit!

Hey, appreciate the quick reply and the info. Last time I serviced my Logan was when it hit 94854 KM on the odometer. Didn’t really make any major changes apart from usual maintenance. To be honest, the MAF sensor defect is what I suspected. Looks like a trip to the mechanic is in order. Cheers for your help!

No worries at all, glad to help a fellow Dacia owner! Given your last service and no major changes recently, it truly could be the MAF sensor causing the ruckus. Just a bit more friendly advice - when you take the Logan in, ask the mechanic for a full diagnostic scan, just to rule out any other potential culprits. Also get them to check the spark plugs and the fuel injection system. These along with a faulty MAF sensor can cause quite a bit of the symptoms you described. It may cost you a bit more, but it gives a comprehensive check. Lastly, don't stress too much. Our Dacias are built tough and most of the times it's something relatively simple causing the problem. Good luck and keep us posted!

Cheers I genuinely appreciate your advice! I'll get the mechanic to run a full diagnostic scan and check those other things too, just to be on the safe side. Like you said, our Dacias are indeed tough, so I'm hopeful it's nothing too complicated or costly. I'll definitely keep you updated on how it turns out! Thanks again for your help and for sharing your experience. Have a good one!

Let our mechanics help you!
