Dacia Logan '06 Ignition Switch Issue: Seeking Advice on Diagnosis, Repairs, and Costs

Ignition cannot be switched on

Car won't start

Hey, fellow car nuts! I'm running into a weird issue with my '06 Dacia Logan, petrol engine. Can't seem to get the ignition switched on and the car won't start at all. I'm suspecting a faulty ignition starter switch, but I'm no expert. Anyone encountered this before? What was your experience with the fix, especially in terms of reliability and cost at the workshop? I'd appreciate any advice or tips you have. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! It sounds like you're in quite a situation with your Logan. I had a similar problem with my '08 Dacia Sandero. Now, I'm no car whisperer, just a guy with some hands-on experience. Turned out for me, the issue was a defective wiring harness, not the ignition starter switch. Had it fixed at my local garage, they did a fine job. Cost about 95 Euro, a bit of a pinch, but worth it for the peace of mind. It's been running great ever since. But hey, every car is different, could be something else with your Logan. Have you checked everything over for any physical damage or corrosion? And could you share more about your car's history or recent issues? We might be able to pinpoint the glitch better. Hang in there!

Hey there! Thanks for chiming in on my problem. And, yeah, I did a cursory check for any visible damage or decay, but it all seems clean... at least, as clean as a '06 Logan gets, haha! The history of my car is pretty standard, it's only done about 13274 KM since its last service. Aside from this starting glitch, it's mostly been smooth sailing. Occasionally, there's a slight jerkiness in gear shifting, but I chalked it up to its age. I'll definitely keep the wiring harness issue in mind and get that checked out. 95 Euro is a bit steep, but if it gets my reliable ride back in shape, it's worth a shot! Thanks again.

Hey, no worries at all! We're all here to help each other out. Your Logan sounds like it's been well taken care of with only slight gear shifting jerkiness here and there, and that could indeed be just due to age. Remember, these machines can be quirky as grandpa, hehe. About the 95 Euro, I get you. It wasn't my happiest day, parting with them, but once the fault was located and fixed, it was good as gold. Trust me, spending a bit now can save you a bundle down the road. But, again, insist on a thorough diagnosis - it might still be something different. By the way, have a professional take a look at the ignition coil too. A of mine with an '07 Logan had a problem where his would not start either. The culprit was a fried ignition coil. You never know, right? Let us know how it works out. Wishing you smooth rides ahead!

Hey there! Can't thank you enough for your assistance. You're right, our machines can be as quirky as grandpa, mine more so than most it seems. Hadn't considered the ignition coil to be honest, but I'll definitely put that on the list. Makes you wonder how many other parts could be unsuspecting culprits, huh? Yeah, the 95 Euro is a bit hard to swallow, but I've been on the other side of the fence of neglect and the grass is definitely not greener there! A full diagnosis is going to be my first step now. Will keep you guys posted about how it goes and what was the exact issue. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Thanks again and happy motoring!
