Dacia Duster 2021: Unusual Battery Discharge and Flickering Lights Issue

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hey! Got a bit of a concern here with my 2021 Dacia Duster (with a petrol engine and 36,437 KM on the clock). Been noticing the battery acting up during startup and lights flickering or dimming, kinda like a dead battery situation. Any of you had this sort of issue with your car's battery self-discharging too much? Last trip to the mechanic wasn't great, so I'm hoping for some DIY advice or better mechanic experience stories. Cheers!

Hey there, Experienced something eerily similar with my 2018 Dacia Logan. Same dodgy battery signs and all, couldn't ignore the fact that the old girl was struggling to start up, right? And don't get me started on those pesky lights dimming. Turned out, it wasn't the battery, but the battery sensor that was on the fritz. Quite the curveball, ain't it? My last visit to the garage revolved around this very issue. They had to fix the sensor up, kept blabbering about bad readings and unnecessary battery drain. But it wasn't a high alert situation. As for DIY, I'd say you can start by checking if any lights or any accessory is left on causing the drain. If everything looks good, maybe invest in a decent multimeter and learn how to check your battery and alternator. But trust me, if the sensor's shot, you might just save your knuckles (and some headaches) by getting a pro to take a look. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hey! Cracking stuff about your run-in with that wonky sensor - kinda throws a spanner in the works, don't it? Starting to think my Duster might have the same gremlin under the hood. Just wondering though, do you recall how much that garage visit set you back? I mean, I'm all game for some DIY, got a shiny new multimeter sitting here twiddling its thumbs. Just trying to weigh the hassle against the hard-earned. Also, anything else jump up and bite you since then? You know how it is, find one issue and suddenly it’s like you've cracked open Pandora’s car repair box. Anyway, cheers for the advice, fella! Looking forward to your answer.

Hey! Sure thing! I still remember that bill. Cost me a pretty penny - about 315€ in total to wrestle with that dodgy battery sensor. Getting it fixed wasn't exactly a drop in the bucket, but sure beats dealing with a car that acts like it's possessed, doesn't it? So, consider it before getting your hands dirty! And to your other question - once I got the sensor issue stitched up, the car's been behaving itself, thank heavens! No more flickering lights or pesky battery drain. Now it starts right off the bat, zero fuss. The mechanic did a good job fixing it, so I'm relieved that my car's not trying to turn into a disco every time I start it up. So there you have it. No Pandora's box for me yet, touch wood. Hope it's a smooth sail for your Duster too. If things go south, you know where to find us. Take care and good luck!

Hey! Appreciate the quick response and yikes, that's a bit steep! But then, willing to shell out those €315 if it means no more surprise rave parties with my car's lights. Your follow-up definitely puts my mind a bit at ease knowing that it's been smooth sailing post-repairs for you. Reckon I'll start with some self-diagnostics before making the trek to the garage. Once again, cheers! Great to have found friendly and helpful advice on here. Hats off to you and this community. If anything unexpected comes up, I know where to turn! Be seeing you around then. Take care and keep on truckin'!
