Dacia Duster 2021 Exhibiting Weak Battery and Flickering Lights: Seeking Advice and Mechanic Recommendations

Weak battery when starting the engine

Dim or flickering lights

Hey! Got a bit of a problem with my 2021 Dacia Duster, petrol engine, clocked about 31k km. Lately, I've noticed the lights dimming and flickering, plus the battery seems weak while starting up. I got a hunch that it might be a battery sensor issue. Last time with mechanic was more of a nightmare though. Anyone experienced something similar? Any advice on a decent mechanic would also be appreciated. Cheers!

Hey! That does sound like a hassle, experienced something very similar with my 2018 Dacia Sandero. Turned out it was indeed the battery sensor microprocessor causing the trouble, pretty much same symptoms you're describing - lights going all funky and the engine starting up lazy. It's a bit of a pesky issue and can affect other systems if not sorted in good time. Took my car to a local garage. They tested the electrical system, confirmed the sensor issue and what they ended up replacing was the whole battery sensor. Not to scare you off but my car had to stay at the garage for a couple of days as the part had to be ordered in. Not to worry though, these things happen and you'll be back to smooth riding in no time. Regarding a trustworthy mechanic, I reckon it's always best to ask around locally, or check out online reviews, they don't really steer you wrong. Hope this helps and best of luck with your Duster! Cheers!

Yo! Oh boy, that dimming and flickering light issue strikes a chord, my old Dacia Duster had the same shenanigans. Just like said, it was the battery sensor microprocessor playing up. I'm no mechanic, but getting a pro to look at it sooner than later seems like solid advice. If I can pick your brain a bit more do you happen to remember the damage those repairs did to your wallet? You mentioned the sensor had to be replaced, so I'm bracing myself for it. Also, did anything else pop up on the old Dacia since you had the fix? Take care and thanks in advance! Cheers!

Hey! Ah, back to talk about car troubles, are we? Regarding your question about the cost, it did lighten my wallet a bit, but it was a necessary evil, isn't it? I ended up shelling out around 315€ to get that faulty battery sensor microprocessor fixed. I know, not exactly a small sum, but worth every penny to get the ol' Dacia back in tip-top shape. And since you've asked, touch wood, there hasn't been another peep out of the car post the sensor fix. Ran like a dream and I've had no new mechanical beasts to battle! So, in short, it's well worth sorting out sooner rather than later – a bit of a sting on the finances sure, but peace of mind is priceless, isn't it? Hang in there! Your Duster will be back on the road in no time, running as smooth as ever. Cheers!

Heys, Thanks a ton for your replies. Really eased my mind knowing someone else had similar issues and got it all sorted. Kudos to you, you've basically confirmed my suspicions about it being a battery sensor microprocessor problem, and that's a good start. Also, thanks for the heads up about the cost. Eyewatering for sure, but as you said, a necessary evil. Rather have the peace of mind knowing that it's fixed and everything's safe. I'll definitely start looking into local garages and checking out online reviews for a reliable mechanic. Hoping to get this sorted soon so I can enjoy smooth rides again. Thanks again, you guys! Gave me quite a morale boost. The car trouble saga continues, but hopefully, it'll be wrapped up soon. Will keep you guys posted. Cheers!
