Dacia Dokker 2016 Overheating with Oil Light On and Metal Fragments in Oil: Suspected Engine Oil Temperature Sensor Issues

Weird engine noise

Overheating

Oil light on

Metal shavings in oil

Hey fellow car enthusiasts, I've got a little puzzle on my hands with my Dacia Dokker (2016 model, Gasoline). Recently, it's been acting up - oil light popped on, engine sounds a bit off, and it's overheating. Plus, I found metal fragments in the oil, which isn't a good sign. I’m suspecting the engine oil temperature sensor might be at fault. Anyone else experienced this, any ideas for troubleshooting or similar tales from your workshop visit? How did you fix this? Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hey there! Just last year, I ran into the sort of same problem with my Dacia Sandero 2014. I'm not a full-blown car nut, but I do have some experience in tinkering around in the garage. The culprit in my case wasn't the engine temperature sensor but the coolant level was too low. I ended up taking my Dacia to the local workshop, where my guy checked it out and topped it up. Cost me a chill 52€, all sorted. One thing though, could you tell me the mileage on your Dokker, the last service date, and whether or not you've had any recent work done? This would help me understand the issue better. Cheers!

Hey! Good point about the coolant, I'll give it a looksee. My Dokker's clocking in at about 45113 KM at the moment. Can't recall the exact date, but the last service was somewhere around a couple of months back. Other than regular maintenance, no recent work done on her. Thanks for the tip, much appreciated!

Hey, no worries, glad to help! That's relatively low mileage for an 2016 Dacia Dokker. Now, considering the symptoms you listed: oil light on, overheating, weird engine noise, and metal shavings in oil, I can't shake off the feeling that something more serious might be at play here than a mere faulty temperature sensor or low coolant. From the sound of it, it could be a problem with the oil pump, or even worse, bearing damage. Metal shavings are a red flag and should never be ignored. I highly recommend you take your car to a mechanic as soon as possible, and please don’t drive it anymore before you do, you might cause more damage. My Dacia Sandero had a similar ticking noise coming from the engine and it turned out to be a damaged piston. It cost me quite a bit of cash to get it fixed. Let's hope that's not your case! Keep me posted. Cheers!

Cheers! Definitely alarming with the metal shavings in the oil, I share your concern. Was hoping it wasn't too serious but looks like I better get her checked out professionally ASAP. A damaged piston, oh boy, I feel for you! Hoping my old girl doesn't have it as bad. Really appreciate your help. I'll heed your advice and won't be driving her until she's all fixed up. I’ll make sure to update you once I have more news. Thanks for the support, guys!
