Dacia Dokker 2014: Resolving Flickering Oil Light and Metal Scraps in Oil Issue

Oil light on

Hey! I'm having a bit of trouble with my 2014 Dacia Dokker running on gasoline. The oil light's been flickering and I've found metal scraps floating in the oil. Also, a warning light keeps flashing on my speedometer. I'm thinking it might be a faulty engine oil pressure switch, but I'm not completely sure. Has anyone had a similar problem and what did your mechanic do to fix it? Any tip would be great! Thanks in advance.

Hey! I totally get your concern. Been there with my 2012 Dacia Logan. I'm no grease monkey, just have some experience from my motoring mishaps. Getting straight to the point, my Logan had the similar issue. Turns out, it was indeed incorrect engine oil in the engine causing all the weird symptoms. Took it to Joe's Garage down the street, and they got it sorted for about €175. They basically drained out the wrong oil, checked for any potential damage (luckily there was none), and then filled up with the right oil. How often do you change the oil and what brand are you using? The make of the oil often influences how well the engine functions. Let me know more about your car's oil history so I can guide you in the right direction. Cheers!

Thanks for the response! I change the oil every 10000 KM or so. I've been generally using Castrol MAGNATEC Stop-Start 5W-30. It’s served me pretty well till now, and I didn’t miss any service. Given I'm at 142104 KM, the funny thing is, I just got the oil changed pretty recently without skipping any! Guess the trouble wasn't in the frequency, huh? I'm definitely going to get the oil situation checked. What you said about potential damage is worrying me a bit though. If it is a faulty switch, I hope it hasn't done too much damage. Thanks again for your help! Cheers!

Hey again! Well, good on you for maintaining regular oil changes and that's a pretty decent oil you are using. Hmmm... gotta wonder if the trouble is elsewhere then. About the faulty oil pressure switch, yeah, it could ruffle some feathers in your engine, alright. But you've been timely with oil changes, so let’s keep our fingers crossed for minimum damage. In my case, my mechanic suggesting sending the oil for analysis to see if the metal scraps are really worrisome. It cost me some extra, but to know if something was grinding where it shouldn't was worth the peace of mind in the end. Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you might consider taking your Dokker for a comprehensive check-up. At least that way, you'll know the full story. Anyway, keep me posted and good luck! Just remember – no car problem is the end of the world. Catch you on the flip side!

Hey, your advice really calms the nerves! You're right, it's crucial to get to the bottom of this. I think getting the oil analyzed is a great suggestion, didn't even know that was a thing. I'll go ahead and arrange a complete checkup for my Dokker. It's always better to be safe than sorry, right? Will keep you posted on what happens. Honestly, think I needed to hear that bit about no car problem being the end of the world. Cheers to you and your outlook! Talk to you later.
