CT4 Oil Pressure Crisis: Engine Knocking Signals Trouble

Thanks for the feedback. I should mention my CT4 has 46161 KM and just had its oil service last month. The knocking definitely gets louder as RPM increases. Using the manufacturer recommended 5W-30 oil viscosity with no prior leakage issues. The warning light stays constant once it appears. Had it towed to prevent further engine damage. Really hoping its just the oil pressure sensor and not a complete oil pump failure leading to worn engine bearings. Worried about the repair costs either way. Will update once I get the workshop diagnosis.

Having gone through this exact situation with my CT5, those symptoms sound increasingly similar to what I experienced. The constant warning light combined with RPM-dependent knocking is particularly concerning, as this matches the pattern I saw before my oil pump failed. The timing is interesting, my issue also occurred shortly after an oil change, with similar mileage. While the oil change itself wasnt the cause, it might be worth having the oil filter checked for any signs of being clogged, as this can sometimes contribute to oil pressure problems. From my experience, when the knocking sound increases with RPM, its usually not just a sensor issue. The constant warning light rather than intermittent alerts also suggests a mechanical problem rather than electrical. The fact that youre using the correct oil viscosity and have no oil leakage history is good, but these symptoms strongly suggest insufficient oil pressure reaching critical engine components. In my case, this led to minor damage to some engine bearings before the repair. The tow decision was absolutely right, I learned the hard way that even short drives with these symptoms can lead to extensive engine damage. Keep us updated on the diagnosis. If it is the oil pump like in my case, getting it addressed quickly should prevent any major engine bearing damage.

Using the proper 5W-30 engine oil with correct viscosity should prevent these issues, so its definitely concerning that this happened right after service. Thanks for confirming the details about the symptoms. Our situations sound nearly identical, same RPM-dependent knocking and constant oil pressure warning. Really hope the oil pump failure hasnt caused engine bearing wear like in your case. Had the car towed to my regular workshop this morning. The mechanic mentioned theyll first check if the oil filter clogged during the recent service, then test the oil pressure gauge and sensor before inspecting the oil pump itself. At least that gives them a systematic way to diagnose the exact problem. The estimated repair costs ranging from 200€ for a sensor up to 800€ for a full oil pump replacement make me nervous. But like you said, catching it early by not driving it further was the right call to prevent catastrophic engine damage. Will definitely post an update once they complete the diagnosis and repair. Really appreciate you sharing your similar experience, it helped validate my concerns and decision to have it towed immediately.

As someone with some hands-on experience with engine repairs, I had a very similar issue with my 2020 CT5. The low oil pressure warning and knocking sounds match exactly what I experienced. The oil pressure gauge showed dangerously low readings, and despite having proper engine oil levels, the symptoms persisted. Initially thought it might be just a faulty sensor, but the knocking sounds suggested otherwise. Took it to a workshop immediately, this type of issue needs urgent attention to prevent severe engine damage. Diagnosis revealed a defective oil pump, which was causing inconsistent oil pressure throughout the engine. The repair cost me 755€, including parts and labor. My advice: Do not drive the vehicle if you see these symptoms. Low oil pressure combined with knocking sounds indicates the engine isnt getting proper lubrication, which can lead to catastrophic engine failure. To help provide more specific guidance, could you share: Current mileage on your CT4, Whether the knocking sound changes with engine RPM, Type of engine oil currently used, Any previous oil leakage issues, Whether the oil pressure warning is constant or intermittent This information would help determine if your situation matches what I experienced and could guide you toward the right solution.
