CT4 Engine Power Loss Points to Faulty Cam Sensor

My 2020 Cadillac CT4 has been acting up lately. The engine barely starts and runs with noticeably less power. Got a check engine light stored in memory. Im thinking its possibly a bad camshaft sensor causing these problems. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their CT4? Looking for advice on if its worth getting the sensor replaced or if I should check other potential causes first. Car has 151707 km on the clock. Previous mechanic experience wasnt great, so hoping to get some insights before choosing where to take it.

Recently dealt with similar symptoms in my 2017 Cadillac ATS. The rough idling and power loss issues pointed to sensor failure. After diagnostic testing, it turned out the camshaft position sensor had degraded wiring connections. The symptoms match your description, hard starting, reduced engine performance, and stored fault codes. The crankshaft and camshaft position sensors work together to control engine timing. When connections fail, the engine management system receives incorrect timing data. In my case, the automotive sensor wiring harness had worn through due to engine vibration. The repair involved replacing both the sensor and the associated wiring. This was a serious issue that required immediate attention, as continued driving could have caused additional engine management problems. Before replacing the sensor, have a professional verify the wiring connections and check for corrosion at the plug. Sometimes cleaning the connections and securing loose wiring can resolve the issue without full sensor replacement. Based on your mileage and symptoms, this definitely sounds like a sensor-related problem that needs proper diagnosis.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the camshaft sensor issue. After I got mine fixed, the car runs perfectly now, the check engine light cleared and power was fully restored. Been about 6 months with no problems. Mind sharing what the repair ended up costing you? I had to go to a specialized shop since my regular mechanic wasnt familiar with Cadillac sensor diagnostics. Also curious if youve noticed any other electrical issues since getting it fixed? Sometimes these sensor problems can be early warning signs of other issues.

Had my camshaft sensor repaired about 2 weeks ago and the total came to 95€ for fixing the faulty wiring connection. Much cheaper than expected since no full sensor replacement was needed. The timing issues and engine misfire problems cleared up immediately after the repair. No other electrical problems have surfaced since the fix. The rough idling completely disappeared and engine performance returned to normal. Regular diagnostic scans show everything running as it should. The repair shop found the issue was isolated to the camshaft position sensor wiring, with no signs of related electrical concerns. Important to note that catching sensor failure early helped prevent more serious engine timing problems. Would definitely recommend getting any similar symptoms checked promptly by a shop familiar with modern engine management systems.

Going to the mechanic turned out to be a good decision. Got my car checked at a specialized Cadillac shop last week and the stalling engine issues were definitely from the camshaft sensor. Total repair cost was 320€ including diagnostics and labor. The mechanic found corroded wiring near the sensor connection which was causing intermittent signal problems. They replaced the entire sensor assembly and cleaned up the surrounding wiring harness. The check engine light cleared right after the repair and the car runs like new again. Really glad I didnt wait longer as the faulty sensor could have caused more serious engine timing problems. No electrical issues since the fix and the engine performance is back to normal. Will definitely return to this shop for future repairs since they properly diagnosed and fixed the automotive sensor problem the first time.
