Cruise Control Malfunction in 2019 VW Taos: Seeking Advice and Mechanic Experiences

Cruise control without function

|

Fault stored

Hey! I've got a bit of a pickle here. My 2019 VW Taos (gasoline, done about 112,475 KM) has its cruise control on the fritz. There's also an annoying 'Fault Stored' message I can't shake. Had a bad run-in with a mechanic last time so just trying to check if anyone on here's had similar issues? Particularly interested in your experience with the cruise control not working and what your mechanic did about it? Any advice or insight would be awesome. Cheers!

Hey! I totally get what you're going through. I faced a similar issue with my 2016 VW Passat not long ago. Turns out the culprit was a defective cable connection to a sensor. The cable had lost proper contact which was messing up the cruise control functionality and setting off the 'Fault Stored' message on my dashboard. The problem was fixed by diagnosing the faulty sensor and sourcing a new cable to mend the connection. The mechanic did all this with a pretty thorough under-the-bonnet inspection. Though it may sound serious, it isn't a major or a complex issue like another engine or transmission faults. But definitely, it's crucial to get it sorted quickly before it affects other parts of the vehicle. You just gotta get your ride to a reliable garage and they should have you back on the road in no time. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Hey, thanks for that! Really appreciate the detailed insight. I think I'll find myself a decent garage this time and will definitely let them know about the cable connection to the sensor. Just a quick one though, do you recall how much you ended up paying to get it sorted? And have you faced any similar issues since? Cheers for the heads up!

Hey there! No worries at all, happy to share my experience. I ended up shelling out about 155 Euro on that fix. That covered the cost of identifying the defective sensor, getting a new cable, and restoring the connection. To be honest, the cost seemed pretty reasonable for the peace of mind it brought! And the good news is, since taking it to the mechanic, my VW's cruise control has been smooth sailing. The 'Fault Stored' message hasn't popped up again, and no similar issues have surfaced either. So, in my books, it was money well spent. Hope this helps you out! Safe travels!

Thumbs up for your help! Your suggestion definitely eased my mind. €155 seems fair enough for the fix. I'm all set to take my VW to a proficient mechanic now. Literally can't wait to get rid of that annoying 'Fault Stored' message and to have my cruise control back to its best. Really appreciate your guidance and sharing your experience. Safe travels to you too! Cheers!
