CrosslandX Diesel: Power Loss & Smoke Issues, Help Needed

Loss of engine power

Stalling while idling

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, having trouble with my 2021 Vauxhall CrosslandX diesel. Engine's acting up with multiple issues, power loss, rough idle leading to stalls, and black exhaust smoke when accelerating. Check engine light is on and there's noticeable jerking during acceleration. I suspect it might be related to the intake system, but I'm not 100% sure. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their CrosslandX? What was the actual problem and how did your mechanic fix it? Any insight would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Grandland X diesel. Sounds exactly like what I went through last year. My car had the same symptoms, power loss, rough idle, and that annoying black smoke. Turned out to be a leaking intake manifold gasket. Had it fixed at my local Vauxhall specialist, the whole job including parts and labor came to about 425€. They had to replace the gasket and clean the intake system. Car's been running perfectly since then. Before we dive deeper, could you share your mileage and whether you've had any other recent repairs done? Also, have you noticed any decrease in fuel efficiency? This info would help confirm if we're dealing with the same issue.

Hey, mine's got 152054 KM on the clock. Yeah, your symptoms sound spot on to what I'm experiencing! Actually just had it serviced last month where they changed the oil and filters, but these issues started showing up recently. The fuel efficiency has definitely taken a hit, I'm using about 15-20% more diesel than usual. Thanks for sharing your experience with the intake manifold gasket, that's really helpful info. I'll get it checked out at my local garage and mention this possibility to them. Did you notice any specific sounds before you got it fixed?

Hey again! Thanks for the follow-up. Yeah, my Grandland X had about 143000 KM when I experienced these issues, so we're in a similar ballpark. Actually, now that you mention sounds, yes! I remember hearing a distinct whistling noise, especially noticeable during acceleration. It was kind of a high-pitched sound that wasn't there before. Also, there was this slight hissing sound when the engine was idling. These were definitely red flags along with all the other symptoms. I forgot to mention in my previous post, before I got it fixed, I tried cleaning the MAF sensor thinking it might help (since it can cause similar symptoms), but it didn't make any difference. The leaking intake manifold gasket was definitely the culprit in my case. The good thing is that once it's fixed, it's usually good for a long while. Mine's been running great for about 15 months now with no issues. Just make sure you get a quality gasket, I'd recommend going with OEM parts for this repair. Keep us posted on what your mechanic finds! Always interested to hear how these things turn out.

Thanks so much for the detailed response! Actually, now that you mention it, I've been hearing that whistling sound too during acceleration, but I wasn't sure if it was worth mentioning. It's really reassuring to know that fixing the intake manifold gasket solved all these issues for you. I've just booked it in at my local Vauxhall specialist for next Tuesday. I'll definitely mention the gasket issue and make sure they use OEM parts if that turns out to be the problem. The 425€ price point gives me a good idea of what to expect too. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's super helpful having someone who's been through the same thing. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted to help others who might have similar issues in the future. Thanks again for all the advice!
