Crossland X Heated Windows Fault: Fix & Cost Guide

Heated windows without function

|

Fault stored

Hi all, having issues with my 2019 Vauxhall CrosslandX diesel, the heated windows stopped working completely. Getting a fault code for this. I suspect it might be related to the windscreen heating system but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem? Would really appreciate hearing what the actual fix was and roughly what it cost at the workshop. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2017 Vauxhall Grandland X diesel (I've got some experience working with cars, but I'm no expert). The symptoms were exactly the same, heated windows completely dead. Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed a faulty windshield heating element. Had to get it replaced, cost me around 585€. The job took about half a day. Just to better help you, what's your mileage and have you noticed any other electrical issues? Also, does your car give any specific error message on the dash? Good luck with sorting it out!

Thanks for your reply! My mileage is currently at 19504 KM, and I just had my service done last month. No other electrical issues that I've noticed, just this heating problem. The dash only shows a general heating system fault code, nothing more specific. Thanks for sharing your experience, that cost is a bit steep but at least now I have an idea what I might be looking at! Did your car give any warning signs before the heating completely failed?

Hey again! Yeah, thinking back to when I had this issue, my Grandland X actually did give some subtle hints before completely failing. For about 2-3 weeks before it died completely, I noticed the heating was a bit patchy and took longer than usual to clear the windows. At first, I thought it was just the cold weather playing up, you know how it goes! Your mileage is actually quite low compared to when mine failed (I was at around 45000 KM), which makes me wonder if it might be something else in your case. Since you've just had a service, did they mention anything about the electrical system? In my case, the complete failure happened suddenly one morning, super annoying when you're trying to get to work! Given that your symptoms are so similar though, it does sound like it could be the heating element. But hey, might be worth getting a second opinion before dropping that kind of money on it. My regular mechanic did mention these heating elements can be a bit finnicky in the Vauxhalls sometimes. Let me know what you find out, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! No, the service didn't mention anything about the electrical system, everything checked out fine back then. It's interesting that you had warning signs before the complete failure, mine just stopped working suddenly without any patchy performance beforehand, which does make me think it might be something different. I've booked it in at my local Vauxhall dealer for next Tuesday, and I'll definitely ask them to do a thorough check before replacing anything expensive. Will probably get a second opinion too if they quote me anything close to what you paid. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's given me a good starting point for discussions with the mechanics! I'll update this thread once I know what's actually wrong with it.
