Corsa Electric Overheating: AC Fan Issues Puzzle Owners

Air conditioning blows warm air

Overheating

Hey everyone, my 2021 Vauxhall Corsa Electric has been giving me trouble lately. The AC is only blowing hot air and the car's temperature gauge shows overheating. I suspect it might be related to the electric cooling fan or its control module. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? I'd really appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. How much did the fix cost at your workshop? Thanks in advance for any tips!

Hey there! I've had some experience with EVs (some technical knowledge). I actually faced a very similar issue with my 2019 Vauxhall Mokka-e last summer. The symptoms were exactly like yours, overheating warnings and no cold air. Turned out the fan control unit was fried. Took it to my regular EV workshop and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. Had to replace the entire control unit, cost me around 480€ including labor. Car's been running perfectly since then. Before I share more specific details, how many miles/km on your Corsa? Are you getting any specific error codes? Is the problem constant or does it come and go? Feel free to ask any other questions!

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! Mine's got 286149 KM on the clock right now, and I had my last service about 2 months ago. The problem started pretty suddenly last week, and yeah, it's pretty constant, happens every time I turn the AC on. Haven't checked for error codes yet, but that's a good shout. I'll try to get those readings tomorrow. Your experience with the control unit issue sounds spot on with what I'm dealing with. £480 isn't cheap but definitely better than what I was worried it might cost! Did you notice any warning lights before your fan control unit completely failed?

Hey again! Yeah, thinking back to my Mokka-e situation, I actually did get a check engine light about a week before the fan completely gave up. I probably should've mentioned that earlier! Your mileage is pretty close to what mine was when I had the issue (mine was around 275,000 KM), so that makes sense. These control units tend to wear out around that mark from what my mechanic told me. One thing I remembered, before my fan control unit completely failed, I noticed the AC would sometimes work fine in the morning but get worse throughout the day, especially in traffic. Did you notice anything like that? It's kind of a telltale sign of the control unit starting to go. Also, when I got mine fixed, the mechanic mentioned that if I'd caught it earlier (when the warning light first came on), it might've been a simpler repair. So definitely good you're looking into it now! Let me know what those error codes show up, might be able to confirm if you're dealing with the same thing I did. The specific code I got was P0495, if that helps!

Thanks so much for that detailed info! Now that you mention it, I did notice it working better in the mornings last week, just didn't connect the dots at the time. Will definitely check for that P0495 code tomorrow morning. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's making me feel a lot more confident about what I'm dealing with. I'll probably book it in at my local EV workshop next week and mention the fan control unit issue. Better to get it sorted now before it completely fails and leaves me stranded somewhere! I'll update the thread once I get it fixed in case anyone else runs into the same problem. Thanks again for all your help!
