Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful information about the wiring harness and sensor issues. Mine's showing pretty much the exact same symptoms as yours did. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also, has everything been running smoothly since they fixed it, or have you noticed any other cooling-related problems? Would be great to know what to expect if I end up needing the same fix for my Disco.
Hey there again! Happy to give you the update! Since getting it fixed last month, my Range Rover Sport has been running perfectly fine, no more cooling issues whatsoever. The repair cost me 155€ for fixing the corroded wiring harness to the sensor, and honestly, it was money well spent. The functional limitation of the radiator shutter that was initially suspected turned out to be a non-issue once they sorted out the wiring problem. The coolant level has stayed steady, and the temperature gauge is now showing consistent, normal readings. It's such a relief not having to constantly check the coolant level anymore! My advice would be to get it checked out soon because you're describing exactly what I went through. These electrical gremlins can be tricky, but once they're sorted, you should be good to go. The peace of mind is definitely worth the repair cost. Let me know if you need any other info about the fix!
Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to update everyone. You guys were spot on! Took my Disco in and sure enough, they found the same corroded wiring harness issue. Cost me a bit more than expected, around 200€ for parts and labor, but the car's running like a dream now. Funny story actually, while they were working on it, they showed me the old wiring harness and it was completely shot! The mechanic said I was lucky to catch it when I did. They got it all sorted in about three hours, replaced the harness and sensor, and even gave the cooling system a thorough check while they were at it. Really glad I asked here before letting them mess with the radiator shutter. Saved me from an unnecessary repair! The temperature gauge is now steady and I haven't lost a drop of coolant since. Thanks again for all the helpful advice, you really saved me a headache and probably some money too!
I had very similar issues with my 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport (gasoline). Last month, my coolant was disappearing and engine temps were climbing. Turned out the wiring harness to the coolant temperature sensor was badly corroded, causing inaccurate readings and improper cooling system operation. The mechanic found that moisture had gotten into the connector, leading to corrosion and intermittent sensor failures. They had to replace the entire wiring harness assembly and sensor. It was a serious issue because incorrect temperature readings can lead to engine damage if left unchecked. In your case, while the radiator shutter could be involved, I'd suggest having the wiring and sensors checked first. These electrical issues are pretty common in Land Rovers of our generation. Get it looked at soon, running hot isn't something you want to ignore.
