Concerns about Peugeot 207 Diesel: Unsteady engine running and loss of power

Loud hissing on acceleration

Jerking on acceleration

Unsteady engine

Shaking while idling

Loss of engine power

Check engine light on

Hey guys, my 2009 Peugeot 207 Diesel with 66,354 KM on the odometer is giving me some trouble. The check engine light is on, the engine power has dropped, the engine is running rough, it jerks when accelerating, a loud hiss when accelerating and shaking when idling. I suspect it could be the swirl flap control on the intake manifold as I had a bad experience at the mechanic last time. Have any of you had similar issues and what was your experience at the mechanic? Any help is greatly appreciated! Many thanks in advance!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 2012 Peugeot 207 Diesel. It was in fact the swirl flap that was broken. I first noticed the unusual noise when accelerating and the drop in engine power. Like you, I thought the problem might be with the intake manifold. After driving it for a while, the jerking got worse and I took the car to the garage. After a thorough diagnosis, they found that the swirl flap was broken and needed to be replaced. Repairing this part was necessary to prevent further damage and loss of power. The mechanics were quite competent and quick in locating and fixing the problem. All in all, it wasn't a minor defect, but luckily the situation didn't get worse after I fixed the problem. I hope this helps you a bit. Good luck with your Peugeot!

Hey, thanks for the quick and detailed reply! It almost sounds like you went through the exact same thing I'm going through right now. Good to know that it was the swirl valve that caused the trouble for you. I've now also read that it's unfortunately not something to be taken lightly. So I'd better make an appointment with the workshop as soon as possible. Do you remember what you paid for the repair and were there any further problems afterwards or was everything fixed? Thanks again for your help!

Hey, I'm glad I could help you a little! Yes, you should definitely make an appointment with the garage as soon as possible. And exactly, it was the swirl flap that caused the whole thing. I still remember the exact cost - I had to pay €865 to fix the broken swirl flap. Not a bargain, I know, but after that the car ran perfectly again and all the problems you described were a thing of the past. Since I had the car at the mechanic, there have been no further problems with the faulty swirl flap control on the intake manifold. So it was definitely worth the money. I hope this helps you and good luck at the workshop appointment!

Hey, thanks a lot for the info! That helped me a lot. The cost is quite high, but if it means that my car runs perfectly again, then it's definitely worth it. Safety comes first, of course. I will now make an appointment with the mechanic and tell him about the problem with the swirl flap. I hope this will speed things up and they can fix it quickly. Thanks again for the help and advice. Hopefully everything will go smoothly when I visit the mechanic and my Peugeot will soon be running like a new car again. I will let you know the outcome! Best regards!
