Concerns about heavily loaded diesel particulate filter in Skoda Fabia

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

|

Check engine light on

|

DPF regeneration failure

|

Strong exhaust smell

|

Loss of engine power

Hello everyone! Has anyone here ever had worries because the diesel particulate filter (DPF) of their diesel vehicle was heavily loaded? In my Skoda Fabia, built in 2010 with a mileage of around 123478 km, I have noticed for some time on the highway that black smoke keeps coming out of the exhaust, especially when accelerating. The check engine light also comes on and the engine performance drops noticeably. Worse still, the car also tells me that the DPF regeneration is failing and the exhaust smells strongly. Have you had similar experiences? How did the visit to the mechanic go for you? My last experience wasn't the best, so it would be great if you could share your experiences. Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Skoda Superb, built in 2013. The diesel particulate filter was also defective due to high mileage. Black smoke came out of the exhaust, the engine power dropped and the smell was really strong. The indicator light came on and the DPF regeneration kept failing, just like your car. The visit to my mechanic was a real head-scratcher at first. It turned out that the DPF had to be replaced as the high load over the years had taken its toll. This was a pretty serious matter and not a simple occasional air filter change. It was quite a job to replace the clogged filter and get the system up and running again. It turned out that the persistent neglect had really reduced the life of the DPF. But after that, the car ran like a new car again. And I learned the important lesson of paying closer attention to maintenance requirements and not procrastinating when something seems out of line. Hope this helps you!

Hi, your experience with the Skoda Superb sounds quite similar to my current situation with the Fabia. Replacing the DPF doesn't seem to be as easy as I initially thought. Do you remember how much you paid for this repair? And has anything else happened since then, or has the problem been completely resolved? Thanks for your support, I really appreciate it!

Hello, yes, replacing the DPF is definitely not a piece of cake. For the complete repair of my diesel particulate filter, i.e. replacing the loaded filter due to high mileage, I had to put €1550 on the table. Of course, that's no mean feat, but believe me, in hindsight it was worth it! Since the mechanic replaced the filter, the car has been running perfectly again. No more signs of black smoke or loss of power. I'm very happy with it. So I would advise you not to hesitate when it comes to repairs like this. Sometimes you just have to dig deeper into your pockets to avoid bigger problems in the future. I hope my experience helps you. Do you have any other questions? Just write to me!

Hello, this is certainly not an easy expense, but it certainly seems to have been worth it. Smooth running is of course important, especially if you use the vehicle regularly. Your advice is definitely very helpful. I think I will take my car to the mechanic and have this necessary repair done. Thank you for your helpful advice and for sharing your experience with me. I'm glad I asked here. See you then!

Hey Dan, that sounds very bad. If I were you, I wouldn't drive the car any more, as a clogged DPF can cause the turbocharger to break down.
