Concerns About Airbag and ABS Warning Lights in 2012 Volvo V50

Airbag warning light

ABS/DSC system is not working

ABS warning light

Hey all, I'm a bit concerned about my 2012 Volvo V50, Gasoline engine, clocked about 25720 km. The airbag and ABS warning lights recently came on and the ABS/DSC ain't functioning like they should. My hunch is an issue with the lateral acceleration sensor. Last time I hit the mechanic's, things didn't go too smoothly. Just wondering if anyone here experienced something similar and how it was handled by their mechanic? Cheers!

Hey, Got a 2011 Volvo S60 here. Had the same issue with the ABS/DSC warning lights poppin' up on the dashboard a while back. It wasn't my lateral acceleration sensor though, the garage I go to found it was down to the ABS/DSC control unit instead. It's a pretty crucial component, handles all the data for your braking and driving stability system, so it's essential to get it checked out pronto. Don't wanna be cruising about with your ABS and DSC on the fritz. When I had my car in the garage they basically performed a diagnostics test to pinpoint the issue. Turned out I needed a new control unit and had to get it installed. Not the most breezy job in the world, but not too brutal either. They were professional, got the work done right the first day. Don't stress though, cars have these issues from time to time. Swipe by a reliable garage and they'll sort it out. Safe driving!

Yo, thanks for the heads up! Seems like we're in the same boat. I didn't even consider checking my ABS/DSC control unit. Definitely going to get it tested as soon as possible, don't fancy driving without my driving stability in check. Just curious, do you recall the cost for the replacement and installation of the control unit on your S60? Also, did you encounter any more related problems since the repair? Hope everything's been smooth sailing for ya since then. Peace!

Hey there! Good on ya for making the choice to get it checked. As for the cost question, the replacement and installing of the ABS/DSC control unit came to a pretty penny, cost me about 1000€. Not exactly loose change, but considering the safety it delivers, definitely worth it. Since it's been repaired, I haven't seen any more trouble from the ABS or DSC lights. Now about the concern you had about the lateral acceleration sensor – I managed to get that fixed during the same visit as well, so no worries at all about that anymore. Overall, the ride's been as smooth as silk since the visit to the garage. Can't emphasize enough how important it is to fix such crucial bits without delay. Keep it rolling safely! Cheers!

Hey, awesome! Thanks for getting back to me with all the info, especially about the costs. One grand is definitely a steep price, but hey, can't put a price tag on safety, right? Relieved to hear you haven't dealt with any more ABS or DSC related problems afterwards. Seems like the lateral acceleration sensor wasn't as big a deal as I thought. Already booked a spot to get my issues sorted out, hoping for a smooth ride post-repair as well. Appreciate the advice and support. Finally feel less anxious about this fix up. Catch you later! Cheers!
