Chrysler 200 Engine Stalls: Fuel System Warning Signs

My Chrysler 200 from 2016 is acting up with some worrying symptoms. The petrol engine is losing power and stalling when idle, plus fuel consumption has gone through the roof. Seeing smoke when I hit the gas too. Already had a bad experience with my last mechanic, so looking for advice before going back. Has anyone dealt with similar injection system issues on this model? Currently at 199869 km and want to make sure I get this fixed right. Any recommendations on what to check or common problems to look out for?

Had similar symptoms on a 2013 Chrysler 300 with the petrol engine. The power loss and high fuel consumption pointed to a faulty fuel injector connection. The smoke during acceleration was a clear sign of improper fuel delivery. The main culprit was corroded wiring connectors at the fuel injectors. The connection had deteriorated over time, causing inconsistent electrical signals. This created irregular fuel spray patterns, leading to poor combustion and performance issues. The repair involved: Testing injector resistance and signals, Replacing damaged wiring connectors, Cleaning injector ports, Reprogramming the fuel injection control module This was a serious issue that required immediate attention. Leaving it unfixed risks permanent injector damage and potential engine failure. The complete fix restored normal power delivery and brought fuel consumption back to standard levels. Key indicators it was the connection issue: Engine stalling specifically at idle, Uneven performance, Visible smoke from exhaust, Sudden increase in fuel usage Recommend getting the fuel injection system properly diagnosed with specialized testing equipment.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the injector system issue. My petrol engine had very similar symptoms and my mechanic also found corroded wiring was the root cause of the power loss. The fix definitely helped get my Chrysler running smoothly again. How much did you end up paying for the full repair? Also curious if you noticed any other issues pop up after getting the leak and connections fixed?

The full injection system repair on my Chrysler cost 95€, which covered fixing the faulty cable connections. The price was reasonable since it mainly involved replacing and securing the damaged wiring components rather than needing new injectors. Since getting the work done, the engine performance has been completely stable with no power issues or fuel leaks. The excessive fuel consumption and smoke problems cleared up immediately after the repair. The air-fuel mixture is now properly regulated, and I have not experienced any additional problems. The repair was done about 8 months ago, and the engine continues running at peak efficiency with normal fuel economy. Getting the injection system fixed promptly was key to preventing more extensive damage. Regular maintenance checks help catch these issues before they impact engine performance or cause system failures.

Good to hear about your long-term results. After seeing your post, I took my car to a new mechanic who actually specializes in fuel injection systems. The air-fuel delivery was completely off due to those corroded connections, just like you mentioned. The total repair came to 120€ for me, bit more than yours but the performance improvement was worth every cent. The mechanic was thorough and showed me exactly where the system was failing. No more black smoke from the exhaust and the engine runs smooth as new. Fuel consumption is back to normal and the petrol engine has consistent power again. Really glad I got it checked before any permanent damage occurred. Going to stick with this mechanic for future maintenance since they clearly knew what they were doing with the injection system.
