Chevy HVAC Failure: Control Unit & Cooling Issues

Air conditioning blows warm air

Need help: 2000 Chevy Evanda HVAC system failure Having issues with my air conditioning system. The climate control unit is malfunctioning, and the AC won't cool at all. Error codes are present, and I suspect it might be related to the rear ventilation flap. Has anyone dealt with a similar air distribution problem? Looking for input on diagnostic steps and repair experiences, particularly from those who got it fixed at a shop. Would appreciate details on what the actual problem turned out to be and the repair process.

Got some experience with HVAC systems after dealing with a similar issue on my 2002 Chevy Nubira. The symptoms you're describing sound really familiar to what I encountered. In my case, the car HVAC system was acting up because of a faulty flap actuator connection. The automatic climate control would show errors and the air distribution was completely messed up. Took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a damaged cable connection to the actuator. Total repair cost was 95 Euro, mainly labor for accessing and fixing the connection. Before suggesting anything specific for your Evanda though, could you share: What error codes are you getting? Does the system make any unusual noises when switching between modes? Are you getting any air flow at all, just not cold air? This info would help identify if you're dealing with the same air circulation issue I had. The Evanda and Nubira share some HVAC components, but knowing these details would help narrow things down.

Thanks for the help. Yes, there's an error code P0531 showing on the system diagnostics. When switching between modes, there's a clicking sound from behind the dash, and the air flow is minimal through all vents. The automatic climate control panel lights are also flickering intermittently. Last service was done at 129,350 KM about 3 months ago, but they didn't check the air conditioning system specifically. Temperatures have been rising lately, so I really need to get this sorted. The air distribution seems completely unusual regardless of which setting I choose. I'll definitely have someone check that actuator connection you mentioned. The symptoms do sound pretty similar to what you experienced with the air circulation problems.

Yeah, those symptoms on your Evanda match my Nubira situation exactly, especially that clicking noise and unusual air distribution. When my automatic climate control started acting up with those exact same issues, it definitely pointed to the flap actuator system. Quick tip based on what I learned: that P0531 code combined with the clicking and minimal airflow through the vents is almost always related to the air distribution flap mechanism. In my case, the car HVAC system's poor performance was caused by a loose connection that was making the actuator malfunction. Since you're getting the same flickering on the climate control panel that I had, I'm pretty confident it's the same problem. The repair should be straightforward, the shop will need to access the actuator behind the dash to check the connections and possibly replace any damaged wiring. Don't wait too long to get it checked though, running the system with a faulty flap actuator can cause additional stress on other air conditioning components. The repair cost should be similar to what I paid, unless they find additional issues while they're in there.

Thanks for the detailed info. This helps confirm my suspicions about the HVAC system. The clicking sound and P0531 code definitely point to actuator issues affecting the air distribution, just like your case. Good to know it was a relatively straightforward fix for you. I've booked an appointment at the shop for next week. Will have them check the flap actuator connection and the climate control wiring. Really hoping the repair cost stays reasonable and that there's no additional damage affecting air circulation to the rear passengers. Appreciate you sharing your experience, saved me some troubleshooting time knowing that the symptoms match up so closely. Will update once I get the diagnosis and repair done.
